Vulnerabilities in the Internet are being exploited aggressively, not just by criminals but also by states. We have the disclosure that the USA and Israel were responsible for the Stuxnet Worm as well as a recent one called Flame, so we know nation states are using cyber-terrorism to disable programmes of sovereign states. Evans says that the threat level is substantial and goes on to point out that the games are not an easy target and the fact that we have disrupted multiple terrorist plots here and abroad in recent years demonstrates that the UK as a whole is not an easy target. She ends her piece:Even if the attack does not manifest, the social meme is planted worldwide that national military are the only force to protect the citizens of individual countries.
