The city, like most of the bursting cities in India, is mainly on the plains with a river dividing it into two. It has expanded itself to cover around 1500 sq. Km. It experiences a sub-tropical climate with around 6 months of rainfall and 9 solar hours daily. This makes the city apt for harvesting rain water and solar energy. The population of the city is increasing exponentially. In the past 30 years, the city's population more than tripled. We need to design smart buildings to accommodate this increase in population. The major problem that the buildings are facing today is congestion. This results in lack of sunlight reaching the homes. Lack of planning is also one of the reasons behind it. Also, the city is in an earthquake prone area. It makes it highly vulnerable to seismic movements. Improper selection of material leads to weak structural strength and also huge amount of losses through the wall. Modern buildings should incorporate proper planning of cities and localities. Also, the building should be designed to utilize the available renewable resources as much as possible. This would make the building self-sustainable. Along with the maximum use of renewable energy resources, the building should cater to the requirements of the residents. It should not compensate on the luxury but should be zero-energy consuming building. Design smart buildings according to the topology of the city and help build a smart city for India. LEVEL 1 In this level the participants will have to submit a report for being selected to LEVEL-2. The contents of the report should be a case-study on the city and designing a Smart Building. The various sections of the report could be: ? Overview about what your Smart Building(solution to the problems) is? ? Designing a Smart Buildings for the city(graphical representation) ? The benefits of the Smart Buildings that you have designed. ? How will the modern system change the present scenario- a comparative study? ? Financial Model of the putting up of such a system. ? Suggesting a method to go implement the new infrastructure you have suggested. ? Conclusion ? References

The participants will be required to prepare a presentation on the basis of what they have prepared in the report. The participants will be helped in preparing various simulations and data representation for the event. The winners will be given rewards at the end of this level. LEVEL 3 After the 2nd level, the participants will be asked to team up with Smart Transport, Smart Grid, Smart Water Supply designers and prepare an integrated report on the same with same contents for the level-1 but incorporating all the verticals and thus a complete design of the MODERN SMART CITY. For all this, they will be given 24 hours time. They will need to submit a report by 5 pm 12th of March.
