    Google Google have been asked a repeated number of times by western governments who are so-called democracies to take down links to many hundreds of sites, in some cases they have done so, in many others they have refused. If a politician does not like what a blogger writes about them, a request for the removal of the link to the blog is sent to Google. People in public life must accept dissent of their policies, it is a part of political life. It said Spanish regulators asked Google to remove 270 links to blogs and newspaper articles critical of public figures. It did not comply. Canadian officials were asked to remove a YouTube video of a citizen urinating on his passport and flushing it down the toilet. It refused. Pakistan asked Google to remove six YouTube videos that satirised its army and senior politicians. Google refused. Dorothy Chou, Googles senior policy analyst, wrote: This is the fifth data set that weve released. Just like every other time, weve been asked to take down political speech. Its alarming not only because free expression is at risk, but because some of these requests come from countries you might not suspect western democracies not typically associated with censorship. We dont want censorship in the UK, it will be resisted.
