William Parrett Beating the Odds: Turning High Poverty Schools into High Performing Schools Wednesday, 9 11:30 a.m. Poverty presents persistent challenges to learning; nonetheless, real schools with students living in poverty do earn high levels of student achievement. Any school can become high-performing if leaders are willing to refocus efforts and resources on effective, research-based strategies. William Parrett, Director of the Center for School Improvement & Policy Studies at Boise State University, will lead an interactive session where hell share practical advice for reducing achievement gaps and youll learn effective ideas for building highperforming schools anywhere. Lyn Sharratt A Non-Negotiable for Systemic Change Putting Faces on the Data Wednesday, 1- 3:30 p.m. Lyn Sharratt, former school superintendent and now professor at the University of Toronto, will share expertise and insights from her current research and past districts success in implementing system-wide change and getting significant improvements in student learning. Using lessons from her new book, co-written by Michael Fullan, Putting Faces on the Data: What Great Leaders Do!, Lyn will lead an interactive session to build the capacity of instructional leaders from the board room to the classroom to create and sustain real change for improved student learning.
