Steven the Greats Oak

About 500 years ago, Moldavias most important ruler of all times, Steven the Great (now sanctified), went to battle against the Tatars near the village of Borzesti, defeated them and chased them away from his country. And as it was the custom back then, after each successful battle, they would build a church or a monastery. Steven the Great built a small wooden church at the outskirts of the village near a young oak, where he used to rest during the battle.

The oak kept growing taller and taller and its branches became stronger and bigger. With no shadow from other trees, the strain got thicker and the crown wider. Whenever there was trouble, when the Turks or Tatars were invading, it is said the Moldavian ruler would hide all valuable objects inside the hollow of the oak. Over time, the hollow closed and a whole treasure remained inside it.
