Extrusion is the process of squeezing metal in a closed cavity through a tool, known as a die by using either a mechanical or hydraulic

press. Practically it is just squeezing of tooth paste from a tube.

Direct Extrusion. Indirect Extrusion. Hot Extrusion . Cold Extrusion. Horizontal Extrusion. Vertical Extrusion.

Wire drawing is a metalworking process used to reduce the cross-section of a wire by pulling the wire through a single, or series of, drawing die(s).

Drawing is usually performed at room temperature, thus it is classified as a cold working process, but it may be performed at elevated temperatures for large wires to reduce forces.

More recently drawing has been used with molten glass to produce high quality optical fibers.

The wire drawing process is quite simple in concept. The wire is prepared by shrinking the beginning of it, by hammering, filing or rolling, so that it will fit through the die; the wire is then pulled through the die.
As the wire is pulled through the die, its volume remains the same, so as the diameter decreases, the length increases. This can be done on a small scale with a draw plate, or on a large commercial scale using automated machinery.

The process of wire drawing improves material properties due to cold working(below recrystallization temperature). The areal reduction of small wires are up to 1525% and larger wires its up to 2045%.

Tubes can be produced by extrusion by attaching a mandrel to the end of ram. The clearance between the mandrel and the die wall determines the wall thickness of the tube. Tubes are produced either by starting with a hollow billet or by a two step extrusion in which a solid billet is first placed and then extruded.
