There are many versions of the Bible in English.

Here is a short guide to help y ou decide which version may appeal to you. The King James Version dates from the 16th century. Its language is poetic but s omewhat difficult to read. By contrast, Today s English Version, also known as the G ood News Bible, is written in much simpler English. The New King James Version a lso brings its language up to date. For most of the 20th century, the predominant Bible was the Revised Standard Ver sion. It is considered strong on scholarship but also archaic in its English. A successor, the New Revised Standard Version, includes some gender-neutral langua ge. Another modern English Bible is the New International Version, based in evangeli cal Protestantism. The Today s New International Version also features gender-neutra l language. Currently, many Catholics use the New American Bible. Some of them read the Chri stian Community Bible, which comes from Latin America. The New Tribes Mission focuses on evangelism to people unexposed to Christianity . The Mission also prepares Bible translations.
