A Syudy on the Shear Strength of Thin-Walled Beams with Perforated Webs Young-Sig Shin

Abstract - The purpose of this study is to investigate shear behaviour of thin-walled beams with perforated webs under shear force. In experimental investigation, a total of fourteen specimens which have web openings located at the mid-height of the web are tested. Finite element analysis of thin-walled beams with web openings has heen executed by using ANSYS program. For finite element analysis, rectangural element with 4 joints having 6 degree of freedom per joint is adopted and nonlinearlity of geometry and material is considered.

For the shear strength of thin-walled beams with perforated web, the results by finite element method are compared with those by experiment and analytical method. Through parametric analysis, it is noted that the ratio of opening depth to web depth is primary parameter of shear reduction for thin-walled beams with web openings.
