ICARUS

ICARUS

Icarus was the son of Daedalus. Icarus was

imprisoned in a maze with his father by King Minos on the island of Crete.

Daedalus then had to find how to escape. He was a clever inventor and made two pairs of wings.

He thought the could escape by air so King Minos couldn't find him. He gave Icarus instructions about how to fly.

His instructions were:

1. Don't fly too low, by the waves, because the water will soak the feathers and make the wings heavy.

2. Don't fly too high, by the sun, because the heat of the sun will melt the wax of the wings and they will fall apart.

3. Fly in the middle of the sun and the sea.

Icarus was very scared of flying at first. But quickly became a master. Then, Icarus thought he could fly wherever he wanted. He flew too high and the sun melted the wax of his wings and made the wings fall apart.

Icarus fell to the sea

His father took the dead Icarus from the sea and took him to the nearest island. He renamed the island Icaria in memory of his son's death.
