EVERLASTING INSIGHT

Mission 2012
Till the 18th

Top priorities of the Organisation and Institution

Century, India was the supreme economic and spiritual power. Slowly India's decline in economic, spiritual, social, moral and political arena began and the country was looted and degenerated. Before independence East India Company and British Government extorted 400 lakh crore rupees; 64 years after independence, power bearers looted and make others loot another 400 lakh crore rupees; this is the black money and currently this loot is rampant. When democracy becomes an instrument of loot and corruption, the country witnesses an all-round loot and chaos. The country is being shackled in economic slavery by the corrupt political system, complex government mechanism, extortive business network and a conspiracy by foreign companies to loot. According to the IMF valuation of Indian economy stands at 200 lakh crore rupees. And if we happen to add black money circulating internally, then this figure becomes 400 lakh crore rupees. Out of this big economy, half the economy is, explicitly or implicitly, in the hands of foreign companies. Foreign companies have been indulging in rampant loot in healthcare, agriculture, seed and fertilizer, insecticide, FMCG industries. These companies are also into life insurance, manufacturing watches, automobiles, mobile phones and computers. We have to completely boycott them to prevent this loot. In democracy, control is achieved through political system, so let's establish a spiritual swadeshi system by boycotting political establishment and vowing to adopt swaseshi. Foreign companies, not only bring a brand and capital, but also they bring along rubbish of their countries, like failed technology, banned drugs, foods, thoughts, principles and the degenerated culture and traditions. To save the country from such dangers, 'Yogapeeth Parivar' in the year 2012 has developed a three-point scheme. 1. To eradicate the corrupt system and loot by foreign companies, we must establish swadeshi thought, priniciples and culture in the whole country. And to establish this we will set up swadeshi centres and train swadeshi voluanteers in the villages and small towns with a population between 3 and 5 thousand. We also build a foundation for Gram-Nirman by offering 1 crore people employment and making them self-reliance. 2. On the district level, deputing over 500 swadeshi volunteers is a significant task in the ideal of making India Self-reliant through Swadeshi. 3. The institution has the priority to organize camps for Yoga and volunteers at various levels of cities, districts, Tehsils and villages. The number of such permanent classes should reach 1000 at the district level, 250 at the tehsil level and train at least 50 volunteers at the village level. Also, we vow to establish ideal villages by establishing poison-free agriculture, swadeshi cottage industry and swadeshi culture.

person is spiritual if one scientific values, ideals and traditions to be Dharma; one who is not an atheist and religious but not a blind follower of Dharma; one who witnesses God in all forms of lives including animals and humans and one who surrenders his or her life to the service of all life-forms. misery, because swamiji considers that there is no bigger Dharma than the Rashtradharma. National interests are supreme. Swamiji says that incumbent political parties have been fleecing and exploiting people in the name of development. It's time now that we now, keeping dreams, imaginations and assurances away, see the country and religion in the present circumstances. And by adopting a healthy, ideal nationalism and transparent, scientific, religious and spiritual thought, protect the degeneration of values. Directionless independence devoids an individual, the society and the nation of their consciousness. Extreme discipline develops stresses among individuals. Truth can be discovered only though lenient independence. A society and a country where honest people are not respected and devilish people are not repudiated that country and society can not be safe for long. If you do not oppose injustice and crime then you also support injustice and exploitation. Swamiji says that he would not be sitting like a loser witnessing the corrupt systems, laws and perpetration of injustice in the country. I am that victorious fighter who fights till the end to establishing justice and moral values. Only cowards and weak people accept defeat. The honour and dignity of the country is my self-respect and my honour. I am going to spend my life in rekindling the self respect of the country. I will not let the spiritual and moral values and independence to degenerate. All of you please contribute to the noble national mission.

his spiritualism and nationalism are not contradictory opinions. Rather these two opinions are essential for the independence and self-protection of the citizens of a country. We are citizens of an independent country and it is our national moral duty to protect its independence, unity and its sovereignty. And if we have a point of view of social harmony, worldbrotherhood and world peace then we are progenies of one God. This is our spiritualism and spiritual philosophy. Here we are remembering spiritual beings like Swami Ramkrishna Paramhans, Swami Dayanand and patriots like Chennama, Veer Sawarkar and Chandrashekhar because this month some of them have their birth anniversary or death anniversary. Venerable Swami Ramdevji is a spiritual saint but witnessing the miserable state of the country his heart gets agitated, restless, and despair engrosses him. So he has vowed to get rid of the people's

Power-centre

Swami Ramdev
he endocrine system exists above tongue in brain and is the epicentre of all the super-natural powers within the body. The pituitary, pineal and all other nerves are directly connected to endocrine system. The endocrine system influences almost every cell, organ, and function of our bodies. It is instrumental in regulating mood, growth development and metabolism of a human being and thus, plays an important role. The system is made up of glands that produce and secrete hormones. According to experts, in Upanishads there is description of finger shaped human heart on which endocrine system works. This is the place of mind, enlightened with the knowledge of the soul. Where the soul lives in a body? It is very complicated question, which is being frequently asked. Here is the answer. The light of knowledge of soul is focused on mind and in other words mind is the microscopic body. Hence this microscopic body is present in the human body and it is available everywhere in the human body. But according to its function, its place could very. During motionless activities, it lies close to the heart as it is the epi-centre

of the body. All nerves, veins originate from here and later spread into entire body. Thus during rest, the place of soul is said to be near heart. Upanishad has also said Yetreva Etat Suptabhud ya Aish Vigyanmaya Purushsatadesha pranana, Vigyanen vigyanmadaya ye eshonthirdaya akashstsmitchete. (2.1.96) When a human being, means soul is in deep sleep, it rests near heart. During dreams, it lies near throat. When a person is awakened, it lies in eyes. Eyes are no doubt important in human life, which see outside world and hence it lies at the most crucial place, when a person is awakened. Therefore it is said `Ya Eshokshini Purosho Drashtya esha atmeti`. (1.2.6). Thus the soul lies in eye and this is also called `divya netra` or `shiv netra`. In the B part of the picture 1) `Sushumna` is at the top, 2) smaller brain and 3) soul with heart, brain and all the 10 nerves are shown. Thus, the mystery is unraveled a little.

Truth penetrates even to a deaf one

Rutasya-Hi Shurudhah- Santi Purvih Rutasya. Dhitirvrijinani. Hanti. Rutasya slokom badhira tatarda karma budhanah shuchaman ayoh. Ri. 4. 23.8 ; Rishih-Vamadevah. Devata-Indrah. Chandah-Trishthup.

Acharya Abhayadev vidyalankar

Glossary:

Rutasya Hi = Truth's, Shurudhah = Non-bereaved treasures; Purvih Santi = Age old, Rutasya Dhitih = To bear verity, vrijinani=sin's, deeds that are protestable, Hanti = destroys; Rutasya = Truth's; Budhanah = wakening and ; Suchimanah = radiant; Slokah = voice; Badhira = deaf ones, Aayoh = People's Karna = In the ears; Aatatard = forcibly penetrates.

Prayer - Dear Ones! Know the majesty of truth! The treasures and strengths of truth never be afflicted. Once verity has shown its real excellence, all great sorrows and calamities of this world seem like a game. Those who traversed the misery would reach the state of bliss that glows in the radiance of truth. If you wish to shun an unwanted thing or thought, then you look forward for the help of truth. Those who entertain truth, evil thought can not stand there even for a fraction of a second. If you are untruthful to some extent, then you are dearth to that extent of verity in you. One, who is an embodiment of truth, would not give room to falsehood to stay aside in his mind. So, you just wish to act according to the light of truth. Then these retractable things, which have no value at all, would disappear soon. If we are true sincere and honest, then our opponent would also hear what we say. Our truth would certainly have an influence upon him. It is impossible to state, 'Verity has no affect at all'. Real voice is 'Shuchiman'. It has

that dazzling radiance. The verity is called 'Budhinah', it awakens people! In the wake of this nimbleness every self-interested person (who turns unheard towards truth fearing that his selfish motives would be obstructed) should open his ears forcibly to hear it. Truth has a great power. It arouses the spirit even in a simpleton, but it can not be perceived by him due to his sturdy ignorance. But honest tone can be reached to heart directly. In the beginning it seems impossible to make them hear the fact. But ultimately, they should recognize it. Undoubtedly truth penetrates through the ears of the deaf ones also.

person who abstains from his duties (individual, family, social) is not at all called a yogi. yam sanyaasam iti praahur yoogam tam viddhi paamd`ava na hi asanyasta samkalpoo yoogii bhavati kas` ca na 2 [2] Know that the 'Sanyasa', the renouncement, (described in detail in third sloka of third canto of Geeta earlier) is to be karma yoga. Because none becomes a karma yogi without renouncing inner desires. This is because a person who does not forego desire and the desire motivated action is not at all a yogi. Here it is clearly stated that renouncing Karma does not reflect the state of sanyasa, the holy renouncement, as true sanyasi would perform his duty, without seeking its result, and remain as a non-doer. Who does not do any duty is called an indolent person. And a sanyasi, according to Smartha treatises a 'sanyasi' is who has left behind all his belongings and relations to seek higher knowledge, would seek alms by wondering here and there and get through his livelihood. Geeta says that if you desire to renounce your desire, there is no need to go to the forest; you can do that in your house also. Aarurukshoor muneer yoogam karma kaaran`am uchyatee

Even though there is no need to perfom karma to attain Mukti, the salvation, a Jnani, (erudite personality) performs karma to collect the earthly things, perceiving that it is his duty. Such deeds which are executed without seeking its result never create bondages. This is also one sort of 'Yajna', the oblation. By nature, Man can never sit nonchalantly. Hence it is better to perform Karma, the doing, having parity and having situated in prudence, without yearning for its result. The perservance of the senses is described in detail at the end of the third Canto. And it is discussed what is wisdom and what is the cognizance and which is called intelligence. There is a description of the practitioners who have control over their mind, intellect and senses in this canto. Anaas`rita: karmaphalam kaaryam karma karooti ya: SA sanyaasii ca yoogii ca na nir agnir na ca akriya:1 [1] The Holy Lord said: He who performs his bounden duty, without desiring action's fruit, is a renouncer, yogi, (yogiwhose human soul united with the Supreme Spirit), not he without fire or action. That means, performing karma is a means to practice Karma yoga. If such person would give importance towards yoga, then Shama or 'Shanti', peace, would become as cause, to stand there, in that state. Commentators of the path of sanyasa enlightened that the word 'Sanyasa' is the significant one in this sloka and one who practice sanyasa, attains peace inwardly. yadaa hi neendriya artheeshu na karmasv anushajjatee sarva samkalpa sanyaasii yooga aruud`has tadoochyatee. 4 [4] One who is attached neither to the sense objects nor to actions, means, he does not show any interest in like touch and smell like senses etc. has renounced all purposing, He's said to be real Yogi or Sanyasi. In Buddhist tradition, it is said that one should enlighten oneself. So it is also possible he may fall of with his ignorance or ego centric nature. Illusion and fascination are the two causes for the downfall of a human being. If a person has a higher aim to reach sublime state, he can do so concentrating his senses on it. Thus he is the responsible for his exaltation. Yes, a human life is the superior life on this earth. If such marvels happen with us, then why are we wasting our precious life chating and thinking about other nonsensible things? Hence, realize the real value of the life.

Black money
Dr Jaideep Arya
(RTI activist) Chief Central incharge Bharat Swabhiman, HaridwarU

I) Data of black money:

Let us try to ascertain, how much black money connected to India exists in the world. Unfortunately, the Government of India does not have any certified or authentic data or a real estimate of the black money. The renowned domestic and international economists share a common view. They say that a parallel economy

of black money is being run in India, which is either equal to the economy of the country or even double the size of it. Now guess with the available data. The prestigious wickipedia says that on the basis of Purchasing Power Parity the GDP of the country is between 220-250 lakh crore rupees. The nominal GDP is 1, 843 trillion dollars. (One trillion is equal to one lakh dollar and one dollar is between Rs 52 to 54.) Amidst a recent discussion on black money in Parliament, the Finance minister told that a committee is calculating how much Indian currency is being deposited in foreign banks. Let us try to understand the actual situation.

II) Let us know, what is black money?

1) Normally people believe that money of tax laundering is black money. 2) Going a step ahead, people may consider money collected from bribery as black money . 3) But the fact is that the major share of black money comes from embezzlement in Government developmental projects. In other words, money that should have been spent on road in my and yours village, improvement in railway station, bus stands, hospitals, colleges, warehouses for storages of grains, money meant for the building and renovation of school premises, money to be utilized for the improvement of backward class, money to be utilized for loan waiving of farmers and money for development and research has been bungled widely. 4) In the illegal trade of real estate, black money generates many folds and in transaction of property purchase and sale, black and illgotten money is widely used. 5) Money collected with the illegal mining in my and your states like mining of coal, iron, copper, silver, gold, diamond, gas, petrol, marble and other minerals. 6) Money from various national and international treaties and subsequent massive corruption in it and huge illegal money pocketed in projects like Commonwealth games, Adarsh Housing society and 2G spectrum distribution. 7) Money laundering in share market and other business through Mauritius route without actually paying black money. 8) Ill gotten money from hawala transactions, drugs smuggling and cut money from purchasing and selling of illegal arms could be categorized under black money. The table is enough to prove that black money rose mani-folds between 1948 to 2011.

also promotes it. It is power of black money behind 9/11 in America, 13/12 attack on Indian Parliament or 26/11, Mumbai attack. Means, it is patronizing terrorism and naxalism in various parts of the globe, including India. Through hawala, terrorists and Maoists get illgotten money, used to destabilize various nation.

2) Threat to democracy - India is the biggest

democracy of the world with roots in impartial election. But black money is playing pivotal role in campaigning during election. Electorate is lured with liquor and money and as a result inefficient people reach assemblies. It is the biggest threat to the healthy democracy.

3) Primary reason behind poverty and inflation - A common man is heavily

burdened under poverty and inflation and the primary reason is ill-gotten money, generated due to corruption and corrupt system. Today, 78 percent of the Indian population does not get 20 rupees a day on an average but a Karnataka's trader has daily earning of Rs 25 crore. There is wide disparity and the prime reason is black money and corrupt system. Ironically, in a country where minimum wage is Rs 127 (Reference Maharashtra Government), the union Government keeps people earning Rs 32 in urban areas and Rs 26 in rural areas above poverty line. Due to such impractical approach and data base, all policies go haywire. The Government does not draft effective policies due to faulty and impractical data and fail to assess national income practically. But if black money is brought back to the nation, the Government debts would be paid and taxes like income tax, sales tax and VAT would be lower and hence, inflation would go down as cost of every item would be reduced to almost half. Poor would be saved from becoming poorer. Each poverty ridden family could be given cash compensation at the Rs 1-2.50 lakh per member. Thus, a family of five members could get Rs 10-12 lakhs. And in other words, people living in hutments could be provided pucca and permanent houses. Orphan children, begging on the road could be rehabilitated. Patients could be provided health services at no or meager expenses.

III) Let us know details of the loss to nation and people due to black money and how development of our nation is blocked.
1) Threat to national security - Black money
not only nourishes terrorism and naxalism but

March 2012&YOG SANDESH&17

Page 18

4) The root of unemployment - If 50 crore

youths of the nation did not get job, the root cause is black money. The black money empire of worth Rs 300-400 lakh crore is running a parallel economy to the nation's economy widening gap between wealthy and poor. Members of the family already have employment are getting additional opportunities for employment but there are many families, where none of the member is in job. Since black money is stashed in foreign banks or lockers, it is not available for industries or business. With black money flowing into the existing economy, new industries would come-up, development activities would be taken-up. New roads, universities, houses would be built with employment to youths through employment guarantee scheme.

industry and business class of the nation.

6) Root cause for farmers' suicide - From

the national earning, every year a major sum is earmarked for the development of the farmers, seeds, irrigation, fertilizers, irrigation and water management. They are granted subsidy or diesel and fertilizer. But farmers are among the most suppressed group. Farmers do not get actual value of their produce. In this nation, where agriculture is the prime occupation, farmer is considered as an unskilled labor. Due to wrong policies it is difficult for farmer to earn two-square meal. Agriculture becoming high investment area and irregular supply of water and power has made farming a loss making area. Hence, small and marginal farmers are committing suicides. What complicates the situation is that corrupts usurp benefits of loan and interest waiving schemes. Self-respect is an integral part of farmers' character. To safeguard self-pride, noncooperation from Government and lack of money, a farmer prefers to end life. But it is more appropriate to say that he takes extreme step due to `loottantra` in government developmental and aid related projects.

5) Basic reason behind devaluation of Indian currency - Due to the parallel

economy of black money, the value of rupee in comparison to American dollar and UK pound has gone drastically down. At the time of independence, the value of one dollar or a rupee was equal. But now a dollar costs Rs 53.78 and the main reason behind it is illgotten black money. When the black money would be brought back to the nation, depreciation of the Indian currency would slow down which would further benefit

7) Prime reason behind multiplicity in value of lands and gold-silver prices Due to the powerful economy of black money, real estate businessmen purchase farm land at very high price and construct colonies. This is a business with 25-50 percent transaction in white and 50-75 percent money is given in black money. The abnormal rise in the price of gold and silver is due to black money economy. With proper control on the black money economy, the value of gold and silver would decline.

8) Reason for block in development activities - Due to large scale corruption

in dam, bridges, roads, building constructions, research, modernization, mid-day meal and MANREGA like schemes, the development has been blocked. If the black money is brought back, India would become a developed state. The living standard of every person would go-up. Poverty eradication would uplift the living standard and a person would be prosperous. Terrorism and naxalism would lose ground. A person, enlightened with education would lead a healthy life, without drugs and hence India

Page 19

would become the most powerful nation in the world economically and other senses.

9) Core reason for increasing domestic violence - Due to corrupt practice and
corruption, many people earn illegal black money and get trapped in drugs and intoxication and thus commit domestic violence. It is rendering a negative impact on the social life of our nation. People are deprived of living simple and honest life and preferring luxurious life after earning from ill means. It is badly damaging the social fabric of the nation. In view of these reasons of black money damaging the society, most revered yogrishi Swami Ramdevji Maharaj and most honorable Acharya Balkrishnaji launched a peaceful agitation in 2008 against black money, corruption and corrupt system and for building unbiased, healthy, equal, prosperous and glorious nation. Swami Ramdevji, following principles of Mahatma Gandhi launched `bharashtachar mitao satyagraha` on June 4, 011. He demanded that the black money be declared as national asset and asked the union Government to issue a notification in this connection. But the Government did not wish to bring black money back to the nation. The Government did not intend to name corrupts, who have stashed millions of dollars in foreign banks. The cheating of interlocutors resulted into forcibly suppressing a peaceful and popular agitation. It is an indelible saga in the rebuilding of the nation and the contribution of the workers, brothers-sisters and other volunteers of Bharat Swabhiman can not be forgotten. During last agitation, the Government of India had assured honorable Swami Ramdevji to declare black money as national property and make arrangements to bring it back. But even after the set deadline, nothing has been done. But today or tomorrow, the Government would have to bring the black money back. The sons of the soil would have to mount morale pressure and exhibit non-violent courage so that the ill-gotten stashed in foreign banks could be brought back. And then only the dream of India becoming the super economic power would realize.

English word 'obesity' derived from the Latin obesus meaning 'fat' or 'plump'. In medical studies, obesity is defined as a person having more than 20 percent of ideal weight. The World Health Organization (WHO) pegs the number of obese people at over 300 million worldwide, with a billion more overweight. Obesity has reached epidemic proportions in India in the 21st century, with morbid obesity affecting 5% of the country's population.

besity, in simple terms, may be defined as a state of imbalance between calories ingested versus calories expended which would lead to excessive or abnormal fat accumulation. Or obesity is simply defined as a condition of being overweight; it means that excessive amounts of fat are accumulated in your body, which results in the excess body weight.

2. Waist Circumference: - The waist

circumference is measured at a level midway between the lowest rib and the iliac crest. To determine Waist Circumference, locate the upper hip bone and place a measuring tape around the abdomen (ensuring that the tape measure is horizontal). The tape measure should be snug but should not cause compressions on the skin. A waist circumference of a woman at least 35 inches (88 cm) or a man with a waist circumference of at least 40 inches (102 cm).

Measurements of obesity:
1. Body Mass Index: - The WHO's
definitions of "overweight" and "obese" are based on an individual's body mass index (BMI), which measures weight relative to height. Overweight is marked by a BMI greater than or equal to 25 and obese is defined as having a BMI greater than or equal to 30. In India new diagnostic cut-off for the body mass index is 23 kg/m2 as opposed to 25 kg/m2 globally. The guidelines were released jointly by the Health Ministry, the

Role of Yoga:
Yoga has an important role to play in the treatment of Obesity. Yoga for obesity involves treating obesity with yogic methods involving a balanced/nutritious diet practicing yoga asanas/poses. Yoga poses work on endocrine glands, improve blood circulation and improve body's metabolism. Asanas strengthens the muscles, deep breathing while doing yoga reduces fat for brining body weight to optimal level. Previous study shows that after six days of yoga and a vegetarian diet camp, there was a significant decrease in BMI, lean mass, water content, waist circumference, hip circumference, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), and serum lepitin level. As well as increase bilateral hand grip strength and postural stability (Telles S, et al., 2010). Also, we want to inform you about a project entitled "Effect of Yoga Program on Anthropometry and Biochemical Measurement on obese persons" which is going on in at Patanjali Yogpeeth, Haridwar. The purpose of this study is to understand the changes of Anthropometry and Biochemical variables in obese persons. In this study we recruited obese persons in all over of India. We had given three weeks yoga and walking program with control diet in this study. The entire participant's age range (20 - 55 years) was divided into two groups (i). Yoga and (ii). Walking group. For the yoga group, yogic intervention included Asana (Trikonasana, Konasana, Padahastasana, Uttanpadasan, Markatasana, and Savasana/Yoga Nindra), Pranayama (Bhastrika, Kapalbhati, Anuloma - Viloma, Bhramari, and Udgeeth), Breathing exercises, and loosening exercises

Obesity According To Body Structure

Obesity is classified according to the shape and structure of the body. They are called apple and pear based on the shapelessness caused due to excess fat.

1. Apple: When the fat accumulates around

stomach that part alone bulges out resembling an apple. It is called apple shape obesity. This is mainly found in men. Apple shape may denote the existence of heart disease and diabetes. 2. Pear: Upper part of the body leans out compared to the lower part. This shape is

(sukshma uyayamas). The yoga program consisted of 2 sessions each day. The first session was between 05:00 AM and 05:45 AM and the second session was between 05:00 PM and 05:45 PM. In a day participants practiced voluntarily regulated breathing exercises before between 12:00 PM and 01:00 PM, and also Light exercise between 03:00 PM and 4:00 PM. For the wakling group, besides yoga include walking (with OM chatting) as a same time of the yogic practice and other intervention were same as well as yoga group. We had assessed before and after intervention, such as biochemical measurement (leptin, adiponection, and lipid profile), body composition, hand grip strength, stability platform, heart rate variability, respiration rate and health related questionnaires. Both groups showed an average weight loss of 4.5 kg. They

were also convinced about healthy eating habits. Also, increase in bilateral hand grip strength and postural stability had shown after yoga program in yoga group but not in walking group. The present trial shows that yoga is one of the best and safe ways to achieve weight loss. Performing yoga everyday morning and evening helps in reducing weight substantially. The logic behind the weight loss due to yoga is simple. You gain weight due to excess of intake of calories and leading a sedentary lifestyle. The result being calories being stored into your body as fat. So it is important that you burn those extra calories to stay fit and under controlled weight. Performing yoga helps you burn those excess calories and helps in considerable weight loss. Yoga combines posture exercises along with breathing exercises which help in intake of more oxygen. This helps in burning the fat efficiently. n

With increasing age, there is damage to the bone or disc of the neck and as a result, everyone has to face pain, with age on the higher side. But it could be avoided with correct posture while sleeping, taking stroll and daily chores besides doing neck related exercise, controlled diet and smoking.

Dr Raju Vaishya
he problem of disc could attack anyone. Though, it is not painful in the beginning and hence, difficult to ascertain the problem. With disc wear, the working of muscles gets affected. For example with the wearing of the outer region of disc, the fluid inside it comes out. This is called herniated disc, which develops additional pressure on muscles. Or two adjoining vertebra could have attrition, causing damage to muscles. Many times it exerts pressure on the spinal chord, passing through the disc. All the reasons cause neck ache, weakness, pain in the movement of neck or numbness. Due to fracture, tumor or infection also results into neck related problems. Tension and high blood pressure could also cause neck ache.

Examination for neck-ache

To ascertain the actual cause of neckache, it may need x-ray or MRI.

Treatment of neck-ache
In the primacy stage, rest, neck related exercises, warm therapy or collar could give relief. Keeping slim pillow below neck and head while sleeping could also give relief. Many times traction of the neck is suggested but it is advisable to have been done under the supervisory eyes of experts. Regular exercise also helps in reducing pain. Performing asana and

pranayam of Swami Ramdevji are also beneficial. According to Patanjali Yogpeeth, during neck-ache Peedantak quath, Dashmool quath, Peedantak vati, Chandraprabha vati, Mahayograj guggal, Trayogshang guggal and Peedantak oil could be utilized. Also take advice from some learned and experienced doctor.

Stress or

Science
To
understand mental pressure or stress, first try to understand mentality and physical changes it undergo.
George Everly.

Acharya Balkrishna

question is when you feel stress? What is the meaning of complexity of veins, nerves, hormones, organs and the process? Why these cause into feeling unhealthy like weak nerves, headache, feeling mentally dejected and other such symptoms? But to find reply, we would have to peep into life, thousands of years back. This enables us to understand the subject of fear and danger within the programming of the body.

A strong change with the beginning of stress means activation of nerves system. It is also called automatic nerves system. This nerves system is responsible for many changes in the body.
e have seen different researches on stress. The knowledge of whatever is going on in body or brain would help in reducing stress. The knowledge of science and principle of stress would help in stress management. With the help of this knowledge you could understand that good mental stress management is not to feel you healthy but it is a better science and medicine too. The first

Stress and big bear

Keep yourself in imaginary atmosphere years back, with no telephone, television, power, car or other modern luxuries. You could also think to be in a hutment or a deep cave at some undeveloped place like dense forest. You are enjoying in yourself and suddenly find a wild bear, emerging from dense bushes. The hungry bear is ready to attack on you. Now the first thought come to your mind, Oh, a trouble. My life is in danger. This would exert mental pressure. The immediate second thought would be to run. You would definitely feel to escape from the place. The third thought in your mind could be to kill the animal to save yourself for your family and friends. Means struggle. This provocation of idea would have impact on physical action and you would get energy to run or fight. This is called fight and flight process.

Fight and Flight relaxes

After thoughts, there would be spate of physical reactions which is a reason for physical and mental arousal. According to a Howard physiologist Walter Kenan, fight and flight is a reaction, which activates the body stress during any trouble or danger. The process extracts stress hormones andryline, norepinephrine and cortisol.

The physiological reflex due to stress

With the beginning of stress, a branch of nerves system gets activated automatically, which is called autonomic nerves system. This development is responsible for many immediate physical changes like digestion, heart beats, blood pressure and bodily temperature. The action of nerves system reacts something beyond human beings control. This nerves system is totally automatic. ANS has two parts which help in regulating fight and flight reaction on constant basis. Now sympathetic nerves system is the beginning of ANS, which

occurs with the start of fight and flight process, when we realize pain and danger. It helps in calculating the danger involved and control of pain. It is an automatic situation. We only have to think that we are in utter danger. It immediately keeps physiological and emotional, physical and mental activities at bay and gives power and pace to deal with the situation. The second branch of automatic nerves systemis called Parasympathetic Nerves System. This branch of nerve activities develops homeostasis. Homeostasis stabilizes physiology and sentiments. The parasympathetic is the process to slower nerves system. During parasympathetic process blood, digestion and energy release or storage is being controlled by central organs. Heart beats and breathe intake decrease besides fall in body temperature and blood pressure. Normally it relaxes muscles. During parasympathetic process, a human being remains calm and peaceful. The body regains normalcy. Automatic nerves system is being controlled by hypothalamus, which is the master gland. It takes the message of being in danger and transmits to all the organs of the body via nerves system as hard wire neuron system. Hypothalamus gives message to endocrine system, which helps in the beginning of hormones. Hormones, andryline and cortical transmits message to all the blood cells though blood circulation, which further helps in increasing pace with more power. Cortical is another hormone which comes out from andryline glands, which is also called as adrenal cortex.
According to Patanjali yogpeeth in stress, take medha quath, medhavati and Saraswatarishta, which are extremely useful in such situations.

Now

Now high pitch voices are raised advocating women empowerment in the world. After long wait, the United Nations Organization (UNO) has agreed to set-up an agency to work for equal rights to women as compared to their male counterparts. Recently, a proposal was presented in the integral session of UN general council meeting, under the leadership of the Indian Foreign minister of state Ms Parneet Kaur and 192 member countries approved it.

fter the green signal from UNO, the path has been cleared for the unification of four different organizations of UNO working for the welfare of the women. The unified organization has been named as UN women. It started working from the beginning of 2011 and working hard to demoralize sex imparity and discrimination besides women empowerment. Jeevan agar yadi Suman to, Nari hai Makrand Jeevan Hai Yadi geet to, Nari uska chhand.

Mahatma Gandhi had positive attitude towards women. He found women good hearted as compared to men. He was against calling women as helpless (abala) and said that it is an abuse to the inner strength of women. Many bravery stories of women have been written in golden words in history. If women decide to enrich glory of a nation, they could do it with spiritual, political and mental capability. The President of India too has stressed on the literacy to women, saying that it would not

only improve a family but alter the entire scenario of society and the nation. The President stressed on better law and order situation to safeguard women in respective states. She said that besides responsible officers, other sections of the society too would have to pay attention. She said that even in 21st century lack of security to women in Indian families is a cause of concern. She said that many small rivulets converge to form a big river and similarly when all women would be literate, a developed society would set-up. She said that the prestige and reach of a woman in a nation is an indicator of the social status in that nation. She said that education to a woman is strongly associated to the economical development and integral growth of women. The women shall be given proper training for personality development besides education so that they could earn taking benefits of the Government schemes. The women would earn self-respect and self-confidence, if they are economically independent. In Indian society, though women empowerment has been stressed but still it has discrepancies. On one hand women have proved their might after climbing Himalayas, reached space and joined armed forces, Police and other such difficult areas, working successfully but on the other hand they are facing many challenges and discrimination due to social evils and mean mentality. Time has come to fight against girl feticide, dowry and a strategy needs to be evolved to deal with the poor condition of women and the society mentality that girls

are a burden on the society. Though, educated women are echoing voice against social evils in the society. The progress of women and bringing them in the main stream of the society would make drastic change towards better side. But while planning for the development of women, consider looking after her children when she goes out for job, balance between domestic and professional life and impact on human relationship. The Speaker of Lok Sabha Ms Meera Kumar said that in two third nations, though laws exist against domestic violence, over 76 percent women are subjected to physical or sexual torture or both at least once in a life. While delivering inaugural speech on the regional symposium for MPs of Asian nations on the topic `how to stop violence against women`, she said that violence and discrimination with women is justified in the name of tradition. Such incidents include honor killing, rape by husbands and marriage of under-age minor girls. Still in South East Asia and Pacific region of the total 41 nations, over 25 percent population in nearly 17 nations think that beating to women by husband is justified. According to the National Crime Record Bureau (NCRB) in 2010, in India 2.13 lakh cases related to violence against women were registered which was 4.8 percent more as compared to 2009. In 2009, the data was 2.03 lakh. Even literate, educated and working class women do not resist atrocities against them. Despite economic growth and development, there is no progression in mindset. Thus, the cases of violence against women are increasing fast. The role and dignity

The attitude of the father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi was very positive towards women.

He considers women good-hearted. He always opposed calling women as helpless (abla).

of women in the society is still termed as secondary. In India, various laws related to protection of women exist but still the cases of violence are on rise. People in India may claim to become super power but it may be a horrifying dream for them despite being reality that we always hesitate talking about women welfare. The women were put to test while giving rights, living standards and even in education. These tests include justice, health, education, economical situation and politics. The male dominated society needs to come out of the mentality of crushing or suppressing women. It is necessary for psychological revolution. Despite all efforts, there is no lessening in violence against women in the world. United Nations observe 25 November as day for violence against women and 8 March as international Women day so that awareness could be brought to the people. Here is a detailed report on the women situation.

barely 3 percent women are tortured by their hubbies. In India around 80 percent girls are killed before taking first breath in the atmosphere. In many districts, the birth rate of girls has gone down. According to 2011 census, 4 crore girl feticides take place in India. 12 percent women in China face violence. But still this data is very less. 50 percent males in Peru commit atrocities on their wives.

To provide proper placement to women in the society, they shall be given job oriented training so that they could earn something and become selfreliant.

Efforts at international level

The United Nations Organization is running a five-year campaign 'Unite to violence against women ' from February 2008. In many nations, where women are living hell like situation like Burkino Faso, Chile, Fiji, Jamaica, Yemen, Kyrgyzstan, Par ague, Philippines and Rwanda.

In India
Around 21 percent of women accepted that they are subjected to domestic violence. 19 percent of husbands beat their wives. Thus, when the world is claiming to fight for the rights and empowerment of women, the question is whether on ground reality, women are getting justice.

women situation.
In Zambia, over 59 percent women are subjected to violence. In China,

years old and a student of primary class, when his younger sister Amar Kaur brought a piece of paper from somewhere. It was a part of some old religious book. Bhagat Singh read it and said - Amra, besides British people, religion is also creating troubles. With British people, I would end it too.

hile recalling the memories, Bibi Amar Kaur said that he angrily threw the bit of paper on the ground and stood on it. His face was red with anger as he was crushing some enemy. Years after, when he was the student of DAV college, Lahore, he never took interest in daily `hawan` and prayer with discussion on salvation and occasionally he revolted against the system. His pain increased once, when he saw an old man on the college gate, shivering due to bitter cold and selling grams. Bhagat Singh asked, whether the old man has other relatives, he replied in negative. One colleague, standing nearby said that this is the result of his karmas. And now Bhagat Singh busted in anger. He said that pundits have befooled you. It is the duty of the society to provide food, shelter to the old man. Till even a single person is hungry, we are not liberated. Till even one person is not getting food, we all are culprits as we are taking meal timely. But this can not be thought while praying for nirvana. After a few years of the incident, when his one of the revolutionary friend asked what type of system, he is dreaming of, and how you would tackle burning issues? By then, due to continuous serious

reading, his political vision was cleared. He told that if I get an opportunity to form the Government, it would not be private fiefdom of anyone. Every hand would get work. His colleague asked what he would do about religion? Would he declare it as illegal? He said that religion is something personal and not collective faith. Later communal riots hardened his stand against religion and god. He said that if we remove god between human beings, the wall separating them would automatically fall. This practical approach of Bhagat Singh was the most important aspect in his life. He was branded as dacoit, fascist and even terrorist but had they ever thought that in terrorism, there would not be revolution and revolution is always without terror. The great martyr Shaheed Bhagat Singh has always been respected as a revolutionary patriot. But he was not only a revolutionary but also a watchful thinker, philosopher, writer,

journalist besides being a great person. In the tender age of 23 years, he studied revolution in France, Ireland and Russia. From National College to gallows, his study continued and this deep study helped him becoming a serious thinker and revolutionary ideologue. Many languages were known to him and he edited two newspapers - `Akali` and `Kirti`. He also worked as a reporter in `Arjun`, a newspaper being owned by late Indravidhya Vachaspati and `Pratap` of late Ganesh Shankar Vidhyarthi. The edition of `Chand` monthly magazine, related to hanging to freedom fighters, which was confiscate is an excellent example of his editorial skills. He single handedly writes pamphlets, circulars, posters and other literature. But it is very unfortunate that due to conspiracy of the leaders, who mattered, views of the great scholar could not reach to the common man, for whom he laid his life. During trial of Lahore bomb case, his articles and write-ups, which could arouse thoughts did not reach public. An important statement in the pamphlet during Assembly bomb blast said `we are taking this step in representation to the public. He was of the view that the deaf ears need explosions. He considered the gallows for hanging was a platform of thoughts. He was dead against bloodshed of a human being by another human being. The credit of diverting Bhagat Singh from anarchy to the progressive thoughts of socialism goes to Comrade Sohan Singh, the editor of `Kirti` paper. He had heated discussions with Bhagat Singh. He also inspired him to write in `Kirti`. With frequent writing, his talent got a new shining. Rajaram Shastri, who was head of a library in Lahore, told one of his colleagues Shiv Verma that Bhagat Singh did not read

but swallow books. In 1928, he proposed to float an all India organization of revolutionary, working in divergent groups. He drafted the joint bill. The proposals prepared by him were excellent. The proposals were as follows. 1) The time has ripe that we declare with courage that socialism is our ultimate target. 2) The name of the party should be changed accordingly so that the people could know our ultimate objective. 3) We shall take only such works at hands, which have direct connection with the public needs and sentiments and not waste our energy and time in attacking lowcadre Police officers or their informers. 4) For funds, we shall approach Government treasury and as far as possible do not take from private people. 5) The principle of joint leadership shall be followed strictly. Bhagat Singh considers socialism as his objective and was in favor of creating a state free from exploitation of a human being by other or a nation by the other. He declared that his war is with British imperialism. He had deep respect towards erstwhile Soviet Union perhaps for the same reasons. He was completely against religion, god and mysticism. He believed in secularism, which slowly diverted to anti-communalism. He was a strong votary of socialism and any work against humanity was intolerable to him. So was our beloved revolutionary leader Shaheed Bhagat Singh.

lived a rabbit in a forest. He had deer, goat and sheep his friends. His friends always claimed, whenever you are in trouble, just give a call and we would lay our life for you.

There

Incidentally, once the rabbit was caught amidst hunting dogs. They started chasing him. He ran and reached to goat and urged to save him. But she replied, I am sorry as I am feeding my kid. He then ran to sheep and asked for help. She said I would have for sure helped you but I am going to my master for cropping of wool. The rabbit reached to deer but learning about the problem, he leaped away saying that he himself is scared of hunting dogs. Hapless rabbit then decided to help himself and cleverly hid in deep bushes. Thus, he was saved.

Message
Always trust yourself. One who believes in himself is being helped by almighty. Those who loose courage and ask for help from others ultimately lose the battle. Thus, if each of us remains self-dependent, we could come out of many troubles.

talent. They showcase A painter and an artist make create their best artworks to prove their more and more people their creations in the exhibitions and art galleries to enable to see and enjoy the beauty of their creation. But at the same time, there is always a restriction on causing any kind of damage to such artworks. A woman is the best creature of nature. Nari is made of two Celebes- na (not) + ari (enemy). It means the one who don't have any enemy or who has no enmity. Her external softness, beauty, sweet smile, tenderness of her heart, forgiveness, compassion, affection, tolerance, dedication, kindness, composure, sensitiveness are the features which are full of the glimpses of the nature.

woman is not only the half part of a man's body but she is also the half part of the whole society and the nation. When a man decides to become a hermit by denying all comforts of life, he gets a lot of respect in the society as his decision is considered to be the greatest sacrifice. But the same thing is done by every women of the country so easily. She actually gives up all her childhood friends, parents and siblings, not for her own happiness but she does all this only for the happiness of her husband and her in-laws. She cooks the food which they like, she wears the Sarees and reads the books of her husband's choice. A woman is full of many great qualities and the best utilization of these qualities can make the nation and the society great. Recognizing this forte of the women, the great philosopher Aristotle said, "A nation's prosperity or demise largely depend upon the condition of the women in the country." A woman's company is a must for the internal growth of a man at every stage of life. For a kid, the lap of a mother appears to be much greater than the entire property of the world. It is said that the whole good habits and good behaviour learnt by a man in his whole life is equal to the same that he learns in the company of our mother. Acknowledging the importance of a woman as a mother, a poet says, "Mata na Kumata Sakti, ho putra-kuputra bhale hi kathor. Sab Devi devata ek our, ae maan meri tu ek our. (A mother can't turn wicked despite her son becoming wicked. All the deities are one side and a mother stands alone on the other side)." After the mother he learns good habits like modesty and abilities to do sacrifices for the society in the company of his sister. When a mother gives some eatables to her son and her daughter separately, the daughter offers her share of eatables to her brother and doing this gives immense satisfaction to the sister. The good

habits learnt by a man in the company of his sister, is really of great utility. Besides all these fortes in a woman, if there are any kind of deficiencies in her character, they are vanished when she plays as a wife which is the greatest gift endowed by the almighty to a woman. A wife offers tremendous support to her husband in adverse circumstances. Giving birth to a child is in a way simple thing. When a husband returns home in the evening from his work place, his wife prepares fresh and delicious food for him

A woman who is widely known for her tolerance and abilities to keep our houses appear magnificent has also proved herself as a great warier in the battlefield.

She is not a weak creature but is more stronger than anyone else. All the male deities have four hands but goddess Durga has eight hands.
and after having taken the meal, when he lies on the bed by keeping his head in the lap of his wife, she gives him a refreshing massage and sings mesmerizing songs for him. It really revives the memories of the mother of the husband. After this stage in life, a man learns many good habits from his daughter and when he turns old, he is served by his daughter-in-law. In his book 'Savitri', Sri Arvind says, "Love is the most predominant force in this universe." Savitri's pure love compelled Yamraj to change his stringent laws. The man who is deprived of love is originally hollow from inside, maybe how stronger he appears from outside. There is a famous adage in English, "The hands which rock the cradles, rule the world." Though a woman appears smaller in size but her stature is much greater in terms of emotions. Owing to her magnificent sweet nature a woman turns a household into a heaven. But whenever it is required, she has shown her courage and strength in the battle field too. What so ever be the field, whether it is religion, spiritualism, social or political- all are flooded with the stories of her greatest contributions. There has been a great tradition in India that

whenever any great social, religious or political leader made a call, women of India promptly rushed to such calls and made greatest contribution for noble causes. Lakhs of Gopikas (the women of Braj mandal) enthusiastically joined the Maharaas of Mahakaal when Sri Krishna made a call for it. To assist lord Buddha, again lakhs of women of that time joined his movement for social reform. Lakhs of women worked as Congress workers when a call for the nation was made by Mahatma Gandhi. Even in ancient India, the great women like Ghosha, Godha, Vishwara, Apala, Lopamudra, Shradha, Wagambhrini, Yami, Shashwati, Surya, Savitri, Anasuya were greatest scholars of their age and were second to none in their talent. The ancient women like Gargi, Maitri, Bharti, Vidyotma, Mamata, Sulbha were not only great scholars but they also had a good knowledge of contemporary politics. The great women like Sita, Shakuntla, Anjana and Kunti who gave birth to the legendry brave men of their time like Lav-Kush, Bharat, Hanuman, Arjuna and Bhima had also dominated the politics of their time, though indirectly. Other women like Kaikeyee, Dropadi, Durga etc had directly participated in the battle fields. It is a fact that women have always been associated with the various activates of every generation. She took to battlefield whenever it was required to clear the mess in every generation. Even if you look into the history of past two decades, you will know about a large number of brave women. In the medieval era, the women like Lakshmi Bai, Durgawati, Ahilyabai, Kittur-Rani Chennama, Jhalkari Bai etc made a great contribution to the history of their time. Such women are still

considered as the greatest source of inspiration. Whenever a call for the sacrifice was made for the sake of the nation, not only the women of affluent families, but the women of all age groups and social status rushed to such calls. There are a number of women who made a great contribution in the freedom struggle especially during 1857 to 1930. Despite high expectations of her parents and kin, Pritilata of Chatgaon joined armed revolution to make her country free from British rule. Again Kalpna Dutt, a girl student, learnt to handle the weapons like pistol, dagger, sword, etc and joined the revolutionary organization. One night she was walking on the streets. She was spotted by some police persons. She was caught and was sentenced to the life imprisonment. Other girls students Shanti and Sunita took to the path of armed revolution and shot a British magistrate dead. They were also sentenced to the life imprisonment. Beena Bhaumik had killed the Governor Stanley Jackson. Twenty years old Ujjawala was sentenced to life imprisonment which was to be served in Andaman & Nicobar jail which was known as Kala Pani. The greatest revolutionary woman Bhikaiji Rustom Cama was another legendry revolution woman. She entertained a dream to join freedom struggle since her childhood. Owing to her anti government activities, an arrest warrant was issued against her. But she crossed the British channel and reached to France where she began to publish a news paper named- Vandi Matram. She trained many people in the art of making bombs. Eventually she was arrested by the French

authorities and was sent behind bars where she was forced to live in distressful conditions. Durga Devi, the wife of the great revolutionary Bhagwati Charan Vohra, had also made a great contribution in the freedom struggle. She is affectionately called by the people- Durga Bhabhi. Mata Gini Hazara, a 73 year old lady, is still known for her inspiring contribtion to the history of India's freedom struggle. She was hold the flag of India's freedom movement in a rally. The policemen deployed there shot two bullets in her hands but she did not let the flag to fall. The third bullet was shot in her head which caused her end. Rani Gaidinliu had joined the freedom struggle at the age of 17. Other women like Kasturba, Sarojini Naidu, Rajkumari Amrit Kaur, Vijaylakshmi Pandit, Kamladevi Chatopadhyay, Capt Lakshmi Sahgal, Avantikabai Gokhale showed tremendous bravery during freedom struggle of India. These are the examples which prove that a woman is capable in not only running a family and showing extreme patience in family affairs but she can show her feats in the battle field too. She is efficient in the fields like knowledge, bravery, management and showing patience. Maybe it is because of these such qualities of a woman, all important departments are presided over by the goddesses like- Education- Maa Saraswati, Finance- Maa Lakshmi, DefenceMaa Durga and Food- Maa Annapurna. Even today, about 17 lakh 75 thousand 91 women have joined the movement which is being spearheaded by legendry Swami Ramdevji Maharaj. Swamiji is running the movement to bring about socio-economic and cultural revolution. It is because of the dominance of men in all fields of life we are met with harsh realities of life all around. Had there been a system in place being run by the women, we would definitely have witnessed peace, harmony and prosperity instead. To change the system, we have a need to change the leadership. The reins of the country and the society should be in the hands of sages and women. India was world leader in past and still it deserves to be like that. Let us come forward to make our nation free from the clutches of evil forces and make the present Kaliyuga an era of Yoga.

has witnessed a number of mass movements which were meant to promote the cause of Swadeshi. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj continued his unrelenting fight against Mughal emperors throughout his life only for the sake of Swadeshi. Lokmanya Tilak, Mahatma Gandhi too fought whole heartedly against British for the cause of Swadehi. Swami Ramdevji has already launched a movement for the promotion of Swadeshi. He believes that a selfdependent India could be built only by the means of Swadeshi. We have once again come up with some portions of 'Swadeshi Movement; Now and Then' in this issue of Yog Sandesh. The article was originally published in May 2011 in this magazine. It will spread awareness among people about Swadeshi and you all the people will be motivated to join the Swadeshi movement to help India emerge as a self-dependent nation.

fter the declaration of the partition of Bengal into two parts during British rule in 1905, the country had witnessed a spate of a nationalist movement which is popularly known as Swadeshi movement. Lokmanya Tilak had led the movement across the country especially in Mumbai and Pune. Ajit Singh and Lala Lajpat Rai spread the movement in Punjab and some parts of Uttar Pradesh. The movement had rocked many parts of North Indian especially in Rawalpindi, Kangra, Multan and Haridwar. The movement was spearheaded by Sayed Raza in Delhi. Chidambaram Pillai had led the movement in Madras presidency where Vipin Chandra Pal's speeches intensified its effect on the people. Even Indian National Congress too, had begun to work for the success of the movement. In its Banaras session, which was presided over by

Gopal Krishna Gokhale in 1905, the Congress too had supported the movement. The Garamdal leaders like Lokmanya Tilak, Vipin Chandra Pal, Lalalajpat Rai and Arvind Ghoshi wanted to spread the movement across the country. They set Swaraj as their goal. A good decision was taken in Calcutta session of Congress which was presided over by Dadabhai Naoroji. In his presidential speech, Naoroji said that Congress has set a mission to form a government in India which will be on the pattern of the governments in Britain or in its colonies- it means Congress had actually declared to work for Swaraj. But at the same time, there were the sharp differences of opinion between Extremist and Moderate factions within the Congress party over ways and means of the movement and in 1907; the party was divided over the issue of Swaraj. After the Swadeshi Movement of 2005, violent

revolutionaries emerged as predominant in the freedom struggle. They began to awaken the masses for the movement and new methods of protest against the foreign rule had started to be implemented. For the purpose of mass awareness, the leaders of Swadeshi Movement took the help of NGOs. They stressed on setting up new industries to attain self-dependency. Almost at the same time, a number of factories and production units were established in many parts of the country. These factories and production units were meant to produce fabric or textile, Soaps, Matchboxes, leather. Some banks and insurance

We should make sure that when the history of India's prosperity is being written, our names should not be mentioned among those who worked to spoil the economy.

companies were also set up during the period. However, most of them shut down soon. But the Swadeshi movement had made its biggest impact on art and culture. It is viewed as golden era for the literature especially in Bengal. Rabindranath Tagore, Rajanikant Sen, Dwijendralal Roy, Mukund Das, Sayed Abu Muhammad etc wrote the songs and poetry which became the greatest source of inspiration for not only revolutionaries but also for moderates, Gandhians and Communists. British government kept on provoking Muslims against Hindus and incited communal sentiments among them. It had badly hit the progress the of the Swadeshi movement. In 1908, when the movement ended, a spate of violent revolutionary activities was followed. Swadeshi movement had mainly stirred the minds of youths for violent struggle. But as the movement had ended and British government had intensified its atrocities on the people, the youths in the absence of a leadership, took to violent methods of struggle. This way, with the end of the Swadeshi Movement, an important era of India's freedom struggle had ended. It is wrong to say that Swadeshi Movement was unsuccessful. The movement had induced a sense of nationalism among the people who were largely ignorant about the concept earlier. The movement had also damaged the interests of colonial regime. The movement is also credited for the Cultural Revolution in modern India. The movement was also very effective in Haridwar. The red building of Kripalubagh Ashram in the city played a prominent role during freedom struggle. The great revolutionary Ras Bihari Bos used to visit here with his associates to dodge the officers of the British government. Now in independent India, it is the same place from where, respected Swami Ramdevji Maharaj had heralded the 'Yoga movement'. With a view to establish the age old Rishi Parampara, and also for making a clean and healthy India, he has launched Bharat Swabhiman Movement. The ailments like fall in values, lack of trust, starvation, and unemployment have caused a 'national calamity' like situation in the country. Loktantra

(Democracy) has now become Loot-Tantra (corruption ridden system). To mend the situation, it has become necessary to bring about a substantial change in the system. Swamiji is of the view that no country in the world can emerge as a great nation without Swadeshi. He believes that Swadeshi education, Swadeshi industries, Swadeshi Chikitsa, Swadeshi technology, Swadeshi knowledge, Swadeshi Khan-paan (eatables) are the primary conditions for the real prosperity of a nation. He is working on a mission to enable India emerge as world's most powerful nation. It is our mission to spread awareness among people on the basis of our own cultural heritage, Sanskaar and Vedic Knowledge so that our country could emerge as an ideal for the other countries of the world. Swamiji clearly says that over 5000 foreign companies in the country have dumped their low quality products like flour, salt, mineralwater, cold-drinks, juices, chips, soaps, oils, creams, powders, soaps, shoes and garments. They are actually looting the wealth of our nation worth rupees lakhs of crores out of these products. Our economy is the back bone of the nation. Let us resolve to make India a great country. By won't purchase the products of the foreign countries, we won't let our economy to be spoilt. Our economy has been badly looted by the foreign forces. Now it is our duty to draw foreign currency in the country by the means of our business skills and quality products, increasing our exports in international trade, promoting high demand for our products in the foreign markets. Such steps are very necessary for the economic empowerment of the country. If you allow the wealth of the nation to be looted by the foreign companies, it is in a way, treachery to your country. Maharajsri has called the people of the nation not to purchase low quality products like Lux soap, Lifebuoy products, Rin, Liril, Rexona, Pears, Colgate, Pepsodent, closeup, ponds, Lakme, Dettol, Dalda, which have been produced by the foreign companies. Let us also pledge not to use the harmful cold-drinks produced by Pepsi, Cocacola, mineral waters by Aquafina, Kinley. We should also avoid visiting to the food outlets of McDonalds, Dominos which are serving
42&YOG SANDESH&March 2012

harmful junk foods. Maybe there are certain companies which are selling food items like juices which are not so harmful for us. Even then, we should avoid such products as maybe they are harmful for our health but their presence in the market is hazardous for our economy. Nowadays, there are a number of Indian companies who are producing quality food products and other products. We should begin to purchase those products. We should make sure that when the history of India's prosperity is being written, our names should not be mentioned among those who worked to spoil the economy. We should try to get a place among those who made our economy stronger. Our names should not be mentioned as traitors but as the devoted sons of mother India. When it is possible for us to save about Rs 20-30 thousand crores from being looted by the foreign companies and can make India a world superpower, then why are we unnecessarily inviting the destruction of our economy by recklessly pursuing the policies of globalization or industrialization? It has to be stopped. Swamiji has declared that he wants to see the last man, that means the total of 115 crore people, leading a happy and prosperous life. By inducing a sense of self respect among the people by the means of Swadeshi, let us join the movement launched by Swami Ramdevji to make India free from all evils.

Women's glorious story

fraudulently and invited his own death. He kept her imprisoned and tortured to marry him But she did not succumbed courtesy her mother power And one day, Lord Rama attacked Lanka and destroyed it Mother Sita went through `agni pariksha` and proved her innocence Each woman of the country bows before her. We still bow before the mother even after centuries Let me tell you a story of woman, a jewel in Indian history Millions of mother bow their head before her daily My hearty greetings to all such women, who brought glory to the nation. In India, there is a state Uttar Pradesh Lord Mahesh, himself took incarnation In that period, demons were ruling And then, to destroy them one woman emerged The demons insulted Draupadi in a meeting publicly But Lord himself, as brother of Draupadi landed and helped her. Helpless Draupadi sought help from him, who immediately came for her rescue But then she asked the almighty to grant her power so that she could damage demons The revenge of women, altered the history A fierce battle ensued between demons and gods And after sometime all the demons were killed and the nation was purified once again In the war for safeguarding religion and truth, Draupadi also participated And this ultimately paved way for the development of the nation With the help of women, it is the time to awaken the nation Now I am speaking story of a woman Who sacrificed her life for the sake of the nation My greetings to the glory of the nation India was the bird of gold and there was no parallel to its prosperity But a few powerful foreigners decided to loot it Shak, Hun, Portuguese, mugals and British invaded India They saw treasury of wealth and thus landed with greed In 1857, it was the first freedom

We are turning a few pages of glorious history of India To reiterate magnificent stories of women My wishes to such brave women by touching feet millions of times I bow head before such glories of the nation. There is a town in Bihar, Sitamarhi It has written an excellent story of women glory Here lived Sunayna, who was well-cultured She gave birth to a girl After sometime she grew and known after her father Janak The girl had the blessings of goddess Laxmi After sometime, she was married to Sri Ram, son of Dushrath At inlaws' place, she was warmly welcomed She won hearts of elders with her service But something else was also written in her fate and she was sent to forest for 14 years But she continued her dedication towards almighty and held intense prayers She was totally committed to her husband, and this commitment was unshaken Once demon Ravana abducted her

struggle When nationalist fighters martyred lives for the sake of the nation One prominent name of the martyrs is Jhansi ki Rani. Let us see a few more glimpse of her life. I speak the glorious stories of women, Who brought prestige and respect to the nation, My `pranam` to all such warriors. She was a `kshatriya` of Maharashtra And married to Gangadhar Maharaj, Unfortunately, he passed away. The unfortunate incident spelled trouble for the queen. But she preferred her duty and decided not to share Jhansi with British invaders. To crush revolting queen, huge posse of British forces arrived But she fought bravely and gave befitting reply. She was just 23, when she showed her braveness. She gave her last drop of blood to the nation. We all women love her by heart, who was like an incarnation of goddess Durga. I am telling stories of the brave women, who laid their lives for the sake of the nation and society. All women bow their head before such courageous women. Meera, Panna, Hada rani and Padmini maharani They all sacrificed themselves on the sacred land of Rajasthan Here, story of Sanyogita was also heard, who led the troupe of brave womenLet us see more stories of Rajasthan. I bow my head on the feet of mother power. And I reiterate yet another story of bravery and courage. India, our motherland has no dearth of women jewels. Here it is just a small story out of it. But unfortunately, Arjun today is torturing Kunti and Insult to the nation has tarnished the image. Somewhere it is female feticide and dowry death at other, Incidents of rape regularly come to light Chickens are roasted in kitchens of so called sacred people In place of `charnamrit`, liquor is being served. Where to go and who would give shelter It is my request from the almighty, please do something. But a flash of light was seen at Alipur, Haryana Where a rose came to the world from mother

Gulab Devi. With the right path shown by the mother, he became Ramkrishna He revived the dignity of Lord Rama and Krishna. The mother gave splendid knowledge to the son, With the help of which, he did public welfare. He learnt various arts of life from the father and at a tender age went to gurukul leaving luxury of home. And this benefited him, when he became Balkrishna. He took admission in gu ukul and learnt arts of sacred Dhanvantari. It was a glorious moment, when two big souls came in touch with each other It was not just a common meeting but, a merger of two great personalities After education Acharya took `sadhna` route While Gurudev went to Himalaya. He held tedious `tapasya` in Gagotri but still he had one problem. He saw loottantra in the democracy of the nation. He heard the wailing women in our country. Thus, he decided to safeguard the motherland first. I am telling story of the jewels of India before whom I bow my head millions of times. He willingly left peaceful life and took to demons Acharya Ramkrishna became Ramdev Swami Hearing cries of mother earth, he reached Haridwar. He is brother, father, son and gurudev, all alike in one soul. He is a glorious and multi-dimensional personality of our country. He lives in the heart of every youth, seers and farmers He taught Yoga to millions to get rid of serious ailments. He associated power of mother, with power of yoga , This ignited the self-esteem and respect of women and they are happy wholeheartedly O yogarishi, we bow our heads before you. No women would again become Durga, Laxmi, Chennama and Jhalkari and would be the real daughter of mother earth. Now women power would contribute more for the welfare of the nation. I am speaking out the stories of women jewels in India before whom we bow our heads millions of times.

Nature
principle of Materialism is not a simple truth. It is defined by three different spiritual experiences. First and the foremost is the supreme experience that the world is collective symbol of consciousnesses which has a practical value; existence of life is merely in the self-consciousness of the supreme human Brahma and an individual's personality and ego are manifestation of only symbols and body and mind. We have said and we would see as well that because of this intellect, we are not bound to define the world as an imaginary or an invaluable practical object. Even a materialist would not have to draw such a conclusion if he or she had not mixed two other experiences with his or her supreme experience. Out of these the second and, the lowest form of experience of sub-matter, which I have mentioned in the beginning of this essay - that is, the experience of mythical tradition of symbolical facts, manifested by the mind and faculties.

truth. Under this state, mind has the third experience that all the substances attached with the universe are only an illusion; and due to this only, they are an illusion, because either, there is no real substance there or there exists a substance, which is beyond the understanding of the mind; and due to this thought our impatient instinct jumps on the conclusion that all the universe is a mirage; it a sensation arising out of emptiness or zero; it's a zero-sum game. Resulting from this, several philosophies like Buddhism and identity of unknown beyond our

experiences and Materialism arose. And then in a specific state of moral development, it becomes easier to see that moral judgment thrown on to the acts and experiences of emotions, physicality and desires are hollow. The purpose of sins committed by us are not so valuable that committing those sins are appropriate and also that our moral principles and values can not withstand the destruction of world's realties; rather they are also practical values, which we do not find relevant for the progress of nature. That is the reason why it's obvious and appropriate to develop dissatisfaction or disenchantment towards the life which is full of mythical valuation. And it becomes easier to step ahead on to a journey to renouncement due to the incompleteness of human nature. The meaning of which is not only developing dissatisfaction for the mythical moral life but also developing disgust for life and drawing a conclusion towards the futility of life. We develop mental renouncement; moral renouncement and among higher souls there attaches another extremely strong inspiration of spiritual renouncement. Because, in a specific state of the spiritual development we realize that this universe is merely a scheme of consciousness set in the Brahma. Or in the middle way, we

experience that there is a supreme God beyond the universe, who remains isolated from the whole existence and always seems separate from it. This is quite possible that several of the spiritualists might have had such experiences and had drawn such a conclusion of the existence of God. Having intellectually observed such an experience, it becomes obvious and compulsive that this pure and enlightened God views this universe as merely a mirage, an imaginary object or a dream only. But they are merely words, which have literal meaning and practical thoughts, which the mind indicates towards the omniscient, which is isolated from universe. And the mind indicates thus because these are the words, which it is not used to use for other things, which are beyond, far away and separate from it; they do not influence in the most explicit connections. Foremost, a mind stuck in inertia, only accepts the truth in material objects; it identifies an object as a mirage, a dream, a false object, if it does not have a material form, or explicitly does not represent a material and if it happens to like it, calls this object as ideal one. Later, when it rectifies its understanding then first thing It does is to overturn its valuation; reaching into a horizon where it loses connection with the material existence or it seems as if this life is un-spiritual or it is not appropriate for spiritual growth, then it uses old terms like dream, mirage, falsity or absolute mythical thought and it uses symbols of the word like Truth for soul rather than for material objects. If we happen to link our ordinary explanatory words, representing mental paradigm with the intellectual conclusions of mental and moral renunciation and mental indifference of renunciation, which both together influence and distort the ordinary view of the universe, we discover materialism.

According to a WWF survey, 8 billion 8 crore crore hectare area on this plant was covered by forests 800 years ago. According to another study, about 70 percent of earth was covered by forest in the ancient time which has now reduced to 16 percent. By 1972, 1/3rd part of the forest in the tropical region was destroyed. Rest of 2/3 part is being destroyed at a rate of 0.5 percent per year. In 1972, the rate of forest erosion was one lakh square km. But after two decades in 1992k, the erosion rate was 1.7 lakh per
square km. According to a UN report released in 1980, the forest erosion rate in the Asia-Pacific reason was 20 lakh hectares every year. In Brazil during 1980s and 1990s, about 6,20,000 hectare forest was destroyed. Developed nations have already destroyed their forests.

Present condition of the forests

Only 30 percent part of the land area of the earth is covered by forests. There is about 9.8 billion acre on the planet which is covered by the forests of which 2/3 part is in Russia, Brazil, USA, China, Australia, Congo, Indonesia, Angola and Peru. In the last decade of the 20th century, about 3.8 crore acre forest area was destroyed every year. Despite many plantation drives, 2.4 crore acre forest area was destroyed every year. It means, 24 crore acre forest area was destroyed in the last 10 years. If the alarming rate of the destruction of the forest area continues for next four decades, there will be hardly any greenery left on the earth. The highest rates of the destruction of the forests have been registered in Africa and South America. Destruction of forest is hazardous to our environment and our health.

World's 60 percent part of plantation lies in Asia of which 24 percent lies in China. In case of India, an 18 percent of the plantation has taken place in India. Eighty-one percent of the total wood cutting in the developing countries is used as domestic fuel for cooing food and other domestic works. In the developed countries, only 10 percent of the wood is used for domestic purposes especially for cooking. The above mentioned figures reveal that except Japan, Russia, Brazil Sweden, no country in the world has 33 percent forest reserve. According to a study, 1,15,000 squire Km forest is being destroyed every year in the tropical region. This area is equal to the total area of Australia and Switzerland. It is noteworthy that 10 percent of the total area in which the forests have been destroyed is replanted. In many parts of the Asia and Africa, the forests have been destroyed to the extent that people who depend upon forests for their fuel requirements cook their food only once in a day. Condition of forests in India

India which has a total area of 32,87,263 sq km, has only 13 percent of forests. About two billion population of the world is directly dependent on forests for the energy requirements. It is necessary to have 33 percent area of the country covered by forests for fresh environment. As per the standard, there has to be a forest area of 11 lakh square km in the country. The 11 percent area is covered by mountains, 18 percent hilly areas, 28 percent plateau and 43 percent plain areas. Area wise, India is the world's seventh largest country. India stands after Russia, Canada, USA, China, Brazil and Australia. According to a 1991 report, about 87.86 percent population in India lived in the villages. India's geographical area is 32.86 crore hectare of which 14.40 crore hectare area is covered by forests. There are a total of 12.5 crore families of farmers and 3.5 crore families are of the landless labourers. There is 17 crore acre land which consists of barren land, deserts, unused, marsh land etc. There are a total of 413 districts in the

country which are covered by forests. But there are only 105 districts out of the 413 which 35 percent forest area. The forests in which, no wood cutting has ever taken place are called main forests which have immense forest diversity. Every year 23.5 crore cubic meter wood is chopped in the country for cooking and energy requirements whereas the forests have a capacity to supply 4.8 crore cubic meter wood. The demand for industrial wood is 2.6 crore meter per year but only 1.2 crore meter is produced every year. Forests are mainly useful in maintaining greenery in draught in summer. Trees are necessary for maintaining moisture in the soil. They don't allow the ground water reserve level to go down. They also stop the soil erosion. About four million hectare irrigated and fertile land is being destroyed every year only because of soil erosion. About seven billion ton soil is being carried by the rivers to the sea every year because of soil erosion whereas hundred and thousands of years are required for the creation of only one centimeter layer of soil. Soil erosion is causing scarcity of water on the planet. A study suggests that Rajasthan desert is moving towards Punjab and Himachal Pradesh.

is believable, even then, the forest cover is 20.4 percent. To make it 33 percent of the total area covered by the forests, we will need to have seven lakh square km land area converted into forest. The current rate of forestation stands at 0.18 million hectare per year. To achieve the target in the next 15 years, we will need to carry out five million hectare forestation will be required every year. About 91,70,000 hectare deforestation took place in the country during 1972-80. The population of India is 16 percent of the total world population whereas the total area of India is only two percent of the world's total area. About 13 percent of the total animals and cattle are found in India. India is a county where its rich cultural heritage flourished in the forests. Forest is worshiped like deity in India. It is said that about 10,000 years back, the negro people of Africa took shelter in Indian forests. They had come to India in the pursuit of livelihood. Negros were followed by Agnay people who had flat nose. Agneys are the origin of the today's several castes like Kol, Munda, Mushar and Nishad. The ancient people who lived in forests were Yaksha, Rakshas, Vidyadhar, Naga, Nigro, Dravid, etc. The great philosophers, intellectuals and devotees of almighty lived in forests. Ayodhya King Dashrath had sent his sons Rama and Lakshmana with great saint Vishwamitra to the latter's Ashrama popularly known as Siddhashrama (located in Bihar). It was located in Today's Deoghar district which is now in Jharkhand. They reached to the place after four months eight days journey. During this yarta (Journey) they killed the dangerous demons like Subahu, Marich, Tadka. They also helped Ahilya to get salvation. It was only

Page 51

during this yartra when they reached to Mithila and Sri Ramchandraji broke the legendry Dhanush (bow) of lord shiva and won in Sita Swayamvar. It is said that when the Rama and Lakshmana were accompanying with the great saint of the planet Rishi Vishwamitra who is composer of Gayatri Mantra, they pass through a small village on the bank of the rivers Ganga and Son. Later on the same village gained popularity after being developed as Patliputra which is today's Patna, the capital of Bihar. The great saints like Valmiki, Atri, Gautam, Agastya and Matang, all had lived in the forests. There was no concept of forest conservation as it was an integral part of India's cultural and religious life. In Mahabharata, the flowers, fruits and pleasant shadow of trees have been termed as the amazing endowment of almighty. At many place in the scripture, trees have been identified as the one who give us Mokshha (Salvation). Actually an effective policy for forest conservation was prepared and implemented by Magadh king Chandragupta. He had a strong squad of elephants for his army. Kautilya in his legendry text Arthshastra talks about appointment of Ataviks who were assigned to protect forests from destruction. Atviks were commissioners of forest department during Maurya period. His appointment was a historical step in the field of forest conservation. Forests were classified as follows during Chandragupta Maurya's period. (1) Forests of religious importance. (2) Forests for the supply of wood (3.) Forests reserved for the grazing of elephants (4.) Forests reserved for the royal hunting (5.) Forests reserved for hunting by ordinary folks.

The acts like cutting of green trees, destruction of forests, hunting of fishes and deer were declared as crime. Even Chandragupta's grandson and India's greatest king Ashoka maintained these guidelines. Even during Rajput kings, who loved hunting, the importance of forests perpetuated. But in medieval period, the ancient outlook about forests was rejected. But Badshah Jahangeer was an exception. He was fond of forests and gardens. The luxuriant King had built magnificent gardens. Nawabs of Lucknow are also credited for building gardens. By making the calls for forest conservation on the occasion of 'World Environment Day' is not enough. We need to adopt in practice. We will have to intensify the green revolution. Save trees from cutting and plant new trees. Jangle me Mangal (Joy in forests) is a famous adage. If forests will cease to exist, where the pleasure and joy of life would be found?

At many place in the scripture, trees have been identified as the one who give us Mokshha (Salvation)

Observe `new year`

2069 as Swadeshi year and save nation

The
settlement of sadeshi system, swadeshi life may appear as Herculean task now but as a matter of fact, in 18th or 19th century the swadeshi based ideology of Maharshi Dayanand, Balgangadhar Tilak or Mahatma Gandhi liberated the nation from the political slavery. It infused self-reliance and new zeal of life. But now multinationals commit excesses in the name of commerce and trade and are responsible for economical, spiritual, moral, social and cultural decline.

urprisingly even today foreign companies have captured half of our economy. One foreign East India Company invaded once and kept us slave for over 200 years besides taking over Rs 400 lakh crore. Now more than 5500 multinationals are gripping the nation. The depreciation of Indian currency is frequent. One rupee which was equal to dollar or pound in 1947 has been devalued 80 times due to frequent loot and corruption. To counter the conspiracy of foreign companies, setting-up of swadeshi system is the only reply so that the devaluation of Indian currency is slow and our economy besides sick industries could be improved. Setting of swadeshi industries could help improving domestic industries, depressed farmers and deprived society, who could lead to respectable life. Patanjali yogpeeth has taken the mighty task to set-up swadeshi industries. If we all pledge to use 100 percent swadeshi products, then only youths could be saved from becoming slaves in the hands of multi-nationals. This would also help in making villages and ultimately the nation, self-reliant. Our country India could become a spiritual and economical

super power. With establishment of swadeshi system and popularity of swadeshi farming, domestic industries and culture crores of jobs would be generated, directly or indirectly. Come forward to realize the dreams of swadeshi to competent and selfreliant India, under the aegis of Patanjali Yogpeeth and save the nation from the loot of multi nationals like Hindustan Leaver, Wal-Mart, McDonalds, Pepsi, Coke and others. The Government befools people saying that multi-nationals bring huge money with them and promote technology, employment, competition and export. But the fact is otherwise, which could be highlighted with the help of data and documents. With capital money, just a few lakhs, these companies have established their giant empire.

Fact of increasing export

In 1938 the share of export from India was 4.5 percent which has come down to 2.2 percent in 1950. It further dwindled to 0.03 percent by the end of 2008. The Government adopted the policy of liberalization but could not control the gap between import and export.

The fact of modern foreign technology

Bata India, Cadbury, ColgatePalmolive and other companies are producing shoes, socks, chock lets, biscuits, toothpastes, soaps and shaving cream, earning many lakh crores. They are in the areas, where we have better technology in small scale industries but due to huge sale of their products, domestic industries are incurring heavy losses.

The fact of employment by multi-national companies

When a multi-national company enters, it does give employment to a

handful of people. At the same time, it usurps lakhs of domestic household industries and render millions unemployed. For example, with the

arrival of Bata Company, many shoemakers in different villages are unemployed as their small-scale industry products are no more sold.

ot casting votes is like an insult to our freedom and democracy. If we keep on avoiding our rights to cast votes, it is going to endanger our freedom. Not casting vote is like an insult to the sacrifices made by our great martyrs. They didn't sacrifice their lives to let the cowards, weak, corrupt, dishonest and criminals to rule the country. All the citizens including you and me are equally responsible for the pathetic condition of India. It our tendency of not to cast our votes which is responsible for the reins of power going into the hands of corrupt people who are actually destroying our country.

Swami Ramdev

Voting: After casting the votes in Haridwar Urban area, Param Pujya Swami Ramdev
