Using the appropriate technology varies according to situations and participants. Essential Questions: What are the obstacles a person faces with online group collaboration? In what ways can technology enhance group collaboration? How does the choice of Web 2.0 tools affect the final project? Educators will know The benefits and challenges of online group collaboration. The uses of specific technology and skills to facilitate online group collaboration. The benefits of selecting appropriate Educators will be able to Access various online Web 2.0 tools. Select appropriate Web 2.0 tools for specific situations. Explain why a certain Web 2.0 tool works for them.

technology. Demonstrate how to build a LiveBinder.

Stage 2 Assessment Evidence

Performance Task(s): You are an experienced instructor in todays classroom environment and continually notice the lack of engagement, motivation, and participation, particularly within group collaborations. Youve acquired some technology background; therefore, you understand the critical nature of technology integration within the curriculum and want to include various appropriate Web 2.0 tools. Todays 21st-Century learners must develop information skills while learning with others to succeed in the current and future workforce; therefore, its your goal to gain knowledge and understanding of the latest Web 2.0 tools available to support online collaborative learning to engage and motivate your students. Key Criteria: To demonstrate learning and understanding the following must occur: Examine a minimum of 20 Web 2.0 tools and applications. Select 5 that you feel best supports your particular online group collaboration situation(s). Create a LiveBinder to collect and analyze your chosen tools. Explain the reasoning behind your choices. Other Evidence: Ability to work collaboratively. Use of critical-thinking and inquiry skills to successfully complete assignment. Observed confidence in use of Web 2.0 tools.

Stage 3 Learning Plan

1. Begin class by asking, What is Web 2.0? and What is a Digital Native? Write responses in online KWL at creately.com. 2. Have group watch A Vision of K-12 Students Today, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_A-ZVCjfWf8) and What is Web 2.0 to a Digital Native, (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9uGLt1tSOrE). 3. Discuss reactions and relation to everyones classroom. 4. Continue discussion while explaining the purpose and goals of the unit. 5. Ask group to explain difference between Web 1.0 and Web 2.0 as they understand it. 6. Focus on Web 2.0 definitions, terminology and examples. 7. Present Web 2.0 Power Point, discussing questions, concerns, and thoughts as they arise. 8. Discuss how Web 2.0 could assist with online group collaboration in terms of engagement, motivation, and participation. 9. Hand-out class textbook, Choosing Web 2.0 Tools for Learning and Teaching in a Digital

World. (Ideally, I would have one book per student; instead, they shared my one copy) 10. Supply various links to sites to assist with selecting 20 Web 2.0 tools. 11. Divide class into pre-selected groups to work together on their choice of one collaboration tool. They may create whatever they decide. 12. Discuss reactions and experiences with online group collaboration as they experienced it. 13. Show screencast tutorial for LiveBinders then build example as a class. 14. Upon completion of LiveBinders, have teachers begin building their own individual LiveBinder with their chosen Web 2.0 collaboration tools. 15. Teachers present their LiveBinders, explaining why they chose the Web 2.0 tools to include in binder. 16. Have class complete self-assessment rubric. 17. Follow-up with self-reflection then share with class.

Ask teachers to prepare one lesson in the next two weeks that integrates the new
technology. Have them report on their experience at a follow-up meeting.
