Instructions for installing Abaqus on a computer that does not have a DVD reader .

On Windows, you can install Abaqus from a remote DVD-ROM device if it has been d efined as a share. Setting up the DVD-ROM device as a share must be performed by a user with Administrator privileges. To install Abaqus from a shared remote DVD-ROM, connect to that drive and perform the installation as if the drive were local. Universal Naming Convention (UNC) paths are not supported by the installation pr ocedures. To perform an Abaqus installation on a computer that does not have direct or rem ote access to a DVD reader, you must copy the required directories from the installation DVD to a location t hat is accessible by the target computer. Abaqus documentation requires all directories and files on the Documentation DVD . Abaqus product and licensing requires the directories and files below on the Lic ensing & Product DVD <dvd>:\common <dvd>:\<platform> <dvd>:\setup.exe (Windows only) <dvd>:\setup (UNIX only) where <dvd> is the drive letter (Windows) or mount point (UNIX/Linux) of the Aba qus installation DVD, and <platform> is the platform-specific directory corresponding to the target in stallation computer. Descriptions for the platform directories are as follows: Directory --------ibm lnx86_64 linux64 win86_32 win86_64 Platform -----------AIX/Power Linux/x86_64 Linux/Itanium Windows/x86_32 Windows/x86_64

The UNIX utilities cp and rcp are convenient for this purpose. When copying file s between different platforms (particularly between UNIX and Windows), special care may be needed to preserve the original file permissions and the file name case. In general, read and execute permissions on all files ar e sufficient for proper execution. Once the files have been copied, execute setup.exe (Windows) and setup (UNIX) to launch the installation procedure on the target computer.
