Mechanical engineering is one of the broadest and most versatile of the engineering professions.

The engineering field requires an understanding of core concepts including mechanics, kinematics, thermodynamics, materials science, and structural analysis. Mechanical engineers use these core principles along with tools like computer-aided engineering and product lifecycle management to design and analyze manufacturing plants, industrial equipment and machinery, heating and cooling systems, transport systems, aircraft, watercraft, robotics, medical devices and more. The latest research areas include automation and robotics, finite element analysis, computer aided design, nanotechnology, Micro electro-mechanical systems, biomechanics to name a few. The versatility and the broadness of this engineering have created a huge demand for mechanical engineers in the above mentioned areas. A new breed of mechanical engineers is required which is competent to face the challenges of the 21st century. These competent mechanical engineers having interest in latest research areas along with all the necessary tools would help in making this world a better place to live. This could only be possible if the good institutes undertake the courses in mechanical engineering with a revised curriculum that suits the requirements of the industry and the research institutes in the country. Keeping all the above mentioned facts in view the department of mechanical engineering of the institute is intended to start a course in mechanical engineering from the coming session (Aug.2012).
