SAFETY
1 WARNING ......................................................................................7
1 WARNING
Only technicians from the maintenance company approved by the manufacturer or a manufacturer's
representative are authorized to install the machine, perform the initial start up and maintenance.
2 ELECTRICAL HAZARD
This symbol appears on the product in all areas presenting risks of electrical shock.
Only maintenance professionals may work in these areas.
For safety purposes, the owner of the machine or the technician must not
intervene while the machine is powered on, or in the 208 to 230 V range zone.
Only authorized Service Personnel are allowed to open / dismantle the computer !
The green general switch (On/Off) is on the left side of the machine. In order to access the switch
when equipped with the second paper feeder option, the position of the machine will have to
provide easy access to the ON/OFF general switch or to the mains socket to which the machine is
connected.
3 cartridge-fuses ensure protection of the various power supplies providing current to all
components of the machine.

F2 = 15A ref : 991 904 402 A, protects the 230V supply of the machine (IWAKI pumps,
circulation pumps, heating resistances, drying resistance, exposure deck turbine, dryer unit turbine).
F3 = 10A ref : 991 904 314 A, protects the two low voltage power supplies of the machine:
computer supply and 24V supply.
5 INSTALLATION CONDITIONS
Site requirements:
1) The machine should be installed near a main electrical outlet which should remain accessible
after the installation.
This main electrical outlet must be earth grounded to ensure proper operation and personal safety to
conform with current standards. Ensure sufficient surrounding space to allow the front door to be
opened. If the main electrical outlet socket cannot be accessed, include an isolating switch that can be
accessed quickly and easily. The isolating switch should be:
- 208V / 15A.
- 230V / 16A.
This minilab has been designed for connection to a network with earthed neutral.
CE only : Provide a 30 mA residual current protection upstream of the main electrical outlet socket
to which the minilab will be connected.
2) The machine should be placed on a dry, hard, stable, flat floor. Water must not run or stagnate
under the minilab during cleaning of the premises. Avoid excessively humid areas.
3) The machine is not fixed to the floor. It should only be moved on an exceptional basis and only
after being placed on its pallet, particularly if obstacles, such as pavements or steps, are to be
overcome.
4) The ambient temperature in the premises should be between +15 °C and +28 °C even when
the machine is switched off. Relative humidity should be between 10 and 85 % (without condensation).
Do not put the machine in areas exposed to direct sunlight (in front of a window) or near heaters.
Never place the machine near steam or oily vapours. The premises should be properly ventilated
(motorized ventilation system - minimim flow = 10 air changes/hour) and the atmosphere cleaned
with air filtration.
5) The machine should not hinder traffic routes or public exits. Avoid areas close to stairs, escalators
or lifts. The area required for machine operation is its floor surface area plus the area required for
access to the external doors and to the machine itself.
6) The machine operation requires the use of a sink for rack rinsing. A sink of approximately 60
cm x 40 cm, 30 cm deep is sufficient. For chemical preparation, the water should be of sufficient
quality (< 20° TH) and at a temperature between 20°C and 35°C. If the water is too hard, the
quality of the chemical processing may be affected, in which case a water softener should be used.
6 COMPUTER BATTERIES
If you replace the battery inside the computer incorrectly it will cause an explosion. Always
use the same or an equivalent type of battery. Do not expose batteries to excessive heat
or fire.
8 OPERATING CONDITIONS
Respect the free space around the machine to enable use in the best possible conditions.

the process stops when the result gets close to the setpoint at + 10 points (the machine
makes the final reference time calculation without needing to make another print).
The control strip is a process allowing you to assess the chemistry's state and trend. It helps you too
to diagnose a possible chemical unbalance.
Principle:
A preexposed paper (or film), the control strip, is developed in the process to be assessed. It is
then measured and its values are compared with the ones of the reference strip provided by the
supplier.
To perform this operation, "Stop/Go" must be red. Click "Control Strip" on the home page. The
"Control strip management" screen displays.
Allows to measure a
paper sensitogram with a
densitometer.
Click on "Develop a paper strip" and then on "Start" on the displayed screen.
You can either use a double track magazine (in this case the paper strip must be
positioned on one of the two tracks against the center guide and over the detection
cell) or the dedicated device (see the pictures below) to load the paper control strip.
The paper strip must be loaded in a darkroom (not as on the pictures below).
This will be performed with the external densitometer. The drivers of the densitometer should be
previously installed (see the 'Software installation instructions' manual, ref. 060 311 719).
The densitometer should be calibrated before each operation (the 'Last calibration
date' status bar shows it as on the picture below).

For Minilab users: The card must be inserted firmly and quickly into the card
User manual - DKS SOFTWARE OPERATION
For Digital Card users: It is essential to avoid taking photographs when the battery
is nearly used up. If the critical battery threshold is crossed while the image is
being recorded on the card, there is a risk of losing all the recorded images and
the card may get stuck. At best, this will mean reformatting the card (which
obviously means losing all the images it contains) and, at worst, the card may be
completely unusable. Cards may suffer from "wear", making them unusable in
digital cameras.
Automatic temporary archiving means that orders are updated as required. When the hard disk is
full, the oldest orders are deleted.
Method:
permanent archiving: select the output "Archives"
automatic temporary archiving: all the orders are sent by default to the automatic archives.

This function enables a bar code to be printed onto an index of a photo (10x15), in order to be able
to identify the batch number of a print. The bar code reader replaces the typing on a keyboard of an
order number. It enables, when the barcode is printed onto the index, to retrieve the order from the
archive.
Select your photos on the screen and send the order. When printed, the bar code will appear on
the Index and on the photo packet. The order is archived as previously explained.

How can the Minilab guarantee that the colorimetric rendering of the printed images is the
one you expect ?
In terms of color management, the rendering of an image may change when displayed
on different monitors using different technologies, or printed on different printers.
All these discrepancies come from the fact that the physical characteristics of the printout
peripheral's elementary components (i.e. the monitor's red, green and blue photophores, the
Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black pigments of the paper, etc.) are of a spectral nature, and
therefore may be very different as shown below :
Original Image
Different acquisition systems may perceive colors very differently due to the physical
characteristics of the color acquisition elementary components (CCD sensors with variable
spectral sensitivity):
Original Image
The ICC standard (International Color Consortium, www.color.org) has recently been
introduced to guarantee color consistency between different display units and color
acquisition systems.
An ICC profile is a small file (a few Ko up to 2 Mo), which characterises very accurately
the colorimetric rendering of an image or a peripheral. It can be referred to as the
"dictionary" of an image. Hence, to interpret an image, it is necessary to extract this specific
"dictionary" (i.e. its ICC profile).
User manual - ICC Profiles
How can an image be scanned and displayed on a monitor with identical colors, when
the language of the scanner (i.e. scanner's ICC profile) is different from the language of the
monitor (i.e. monitor's ICC profile) ?
A universal "buffer" language is used to perform the color conversion. The ICC
organization defined the LAB or XYZ dictionary as being this universal language (just as
Esperanto).
A single peripheral ICC profile is useless. Always combine an input peripheral ICC
profile with an output peripheral ICC profile, in order to translate the input peripheral
language into the output peripheral language.
The diagram above shows the color consistency between image A and image B when
color management is applied.
Warning ! It is highly recommended to embed your ICC profile in your image, in order to
ensure colorimetric rendering consistency for all the future representations of this image.
If there is no ICC profile embedded, the colorimetric rendering of the image will be chosen
arbitrarily, and thus in various ways.
In such a case, you will have to associate an ICC profile to this image each time it is
processed.
* We advise you to use the ICC profile of your minilab (SDP.icc) as your work profile on your
personal computer (see diagram next page). This profile SDP.icc is available on your Minilab

desktop. Copy the profile from the "ICC profile of your Minilab" directory to your personal
computer. (On Windows, this profile is to be copied from the following directory:

Each time a digital image is processed, it is translated from its color space, defined by the
embedded profile (or a default profile), to the color space defined by the Minilab profile
SDP.icc.
All user corrections are performed within the Minilab color workspace.
User manual - ICC Profiles
When the image is sent to a digital output, it is either kept within the minilab colour space
(tiff and jpeg format), or converted to the sRGB space (exif and PCD).
(1) This color management is performed by the image chain of the customer application
(2) This color management is performed by the image chain of the Minilab.
6.1.4 Why does the image printed on your Minilab not correspond to your
customer's expectations ?
. This situation may occur if one of the peripheral profiles has not been defined precisely
enough. This happens more often than not ! For example, changing the screen setting
(contrast, brightness, color balance...) can modify the image display and lead to an
inaccurateness of the screen ICC profile initially defined.
Many cameras associate an sRGB profile to their images. However, this sRGB profile
doesn't always reflect the exact colorimetric rendering of the device.
Try taking a picture of a scenery using different brands and types cameras, and you will be
surprised by the variety of color rendering.
There are many tools available on the market to help you define the profile for each of your
peripherals more effectively.
Group C is the group of colors that the acquisition peripheral is unable to see
accurately, but that the printing system can reproduce accurately.
To illustrate these issues, lets consider the four examples below showing the Minilab
Gamut (Kodak Royal paper) and the sRGB Gamut at different luminosity levels.
The Minilab Gamut can be greater or smaller depending on the luminosity level, the
color and the saturation.
Color 2 :
saturated cyan
Color 1 = The color "saturated red" is not part of the Minilab Gamut. Thus, its
representation will be inaccurate due to the limits of the Minilab Gamut.
Color 2 = The color "saturated cyan" is not part of the sRGB Gamut. Thus, its
representation will be inaccurate due to the limits of the sRGB Gamut.
User manual - ICC Profiles
The image has no embedded ICC profile. The default Minilab profile is associated
to the image (i.e. SDP.icc).
Cases of application:
Note : To obtain the same color rendering as a printing system that does not
disturb ICC profiles, you have to associate the printer profile to your image.
To adapt the digital color rendering to the country preferences, we defined a specific
color transformation: "Favorite Color Rendering".
User manual - ICC Profiles
Caution ! The preferred rendering function is not a profile, but a type of correction
adapted to a country preference.

Do not install the scanner near devices that generate a magnetic field or
electromagnetic waves. The magnetic influence could cause faulty
operation of the scanner.
Do not install the scanner in an area subject to vibrations which could lead
to incorrect operation of the equipment and a distortion of the scanned
image.
Use of the scanner in such conditions could adversely affect the correct
operation or performance of the scanner.
User manual - IM 1500 PRO SCANNER OPERATION
Only use the scanner under the following power supply conditions:
In the event of incorrect operation due to voltage drops or noise (even when using a
separate connector), a power stabiliser or high-frequency noise filter must be installed.
Make sure the capacity of these devices is checked before using them.
7 USAGE PRECAUTIONS
Due to the poor quality of some APS cartridges, we recommend that you
remove the film from the APS cartridge before scanning it.
The following precautions are to be taken when scanning an APS film cartridge:
(refer to figure below):
Check that the APS film cartridge has been processed (white mark in position
4, IPI tab (*) bent) before inserting it into the scanner.
Check that the flap (5) is closed.
Do not take the film out of the APS cartridge.
Do not disassemble the APS film cartridge. This could prevent the images
from being scanned and may damage the scanner.
Do not bring objects which have strong magnetic fields (magnets,
loudspeakers, etc.) near the film cartridge. This could prevent the scanning
of the digital data recorded on the APS film cartridge and the reading of the
magnetic data.
After processing, do not insert the film until it has completely dried.
Inserting a film, which has just been processed, into the scanner may damage
the film or cause the film to jam.
Damaged APS film cartridges or film cartridges which have been used several
times may cause errors. Remove the film from the cartridge to scan it.
Check the leading edge of the film before inserting it into the scanner (when
using film without cartridge). Adhesive tape or glue on the edge of the film
may cause a scanner operating fault. An error may also occur if the leading
edge of the film is bent.
Edges may appear on the scanned images due to the position of the
frames on the film. In this case, according to the menu, it may be possible to
remove the edges.
1 Unexposed film
2 Partially exposed film
User manual - IM 1500 PRO SCANNER OPERATION
The following precautions are to be taken when scanning 35mm or 60mm films:
Even if you are equipped with the dust and dirt software, the following step are relevant
Always use gloves to handle the films so that fingerprints do not adhere to the surface.
Do not touch the silver compound surface of the film with your fingers.
Remove any dust or static electricity from the film using an anti-static brush, before inserting the film
into the scanner.
After processing, do not insert the film until it has completely dried.
Inserting a film, which has just been processed, into the scanner may damage
the film or cause the film to jam.
The leading edge must not exceed 7 cm long.
Check the leading edge of the film before inserting it into the scanner.
If the end of the film is bent or missing, cut the film (refer to figure).
Adhesive tape or glue on the edge of the film may cause a scanner operating
fault. Cut the tape (refer to figure) or carefully remove it.
An error may occur if the curling of the film does not meet the following conditions:
- Curling widthwise: 5mm maximum
- Curling lengthwise 100mm
- Uniform curve
After inserting the film, do not pull on or push the film by hand.
After loading, scan the film as soon as possible.
Edges may appear on the scanned images due to the position of the frames on the film. In this case,
according to the menu, it may be possible to remove the edges. Use the "Manual cropping" function.
Barcodes for notched films cannot be scanned and analysed.
The frames can become displaced when scanning ultrathin film, such as duplicating film.
