Statement of Purpose
We aim to create a framework which meaningfully engages Grade 8 and 9 students in learning. We want them to master essential competencies in literacy, numeracy and critical thinking through focussed, content rich curricula. Creating relationships based on care and trust is foundational to this endeavour. In addition we want our kids to be: Confident, resilient learners and self-regulated learners in school and beyond Risk takers with a growth mind set Contributors to the greater good Willing to put forward their best effort

Guiding Principles
1. Overwhelming support- We require a very high level of support from those affected by any changes we propose. Transparent process We intend to openly communicate our processes and proposals to staff and accept responsibility for clearly communicating our plans. Supportive of meaningful relationships The framework we create must be supportive of the creating and maintenance of meaningful relationships within our school community. Sustainable The framework we create must be sustainable in the long term without putting undue stress on any part of our school community.

ILD THE BIG PICTURE

Collaboration at GP

What happens when teachers collaborate?

Know
When we work together, output is better than when solo Sum is bigger than parts Helps in differentiation of delivery; helps with cross-curricular Should be long term and crossdepartment Good to have different viewpoints from multiple departments Physical arrangement changes how people interact Confidence around new ideas

Wonder
Where do we find the time? How can we make it effective and meaningful for students? What models have been tried previously? Who do you collaborate with? How do we get support of admin and district? Can the be pops to assist with this? ;) What is it that makes collaboration truly successful? How do we sustain it? Where are kids going to be during collaboration time?

Next Steps
ILD Structures team meets on Monday, Feb 20 in C-109 ILD team (all of us) meets Monday Feb 27 in C-109 Anyone on staff is welcome to attend those meetings. At those meetings we will discuss the ideas and concerns raised today and try to develop a proposal for collaborative time that meets with widespread approval among staff. Anything we come up with will be presented to teachers in writing with opportunity for additional feedback. Assuming what we come up appears to have widespread support, there will be a secret ballot vote.
