On January 20, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that nearly all employers will be forced to cover drugs and procedures that violate their conscience in their health insurance plans. Never before in our US History has the Federal Government forced citizens to directly purchase what violates their beliefs. At issue here is the survival of a cornerstone constitutionally protected freedom that ensures respect for conscience and religious liberty, as many employers are of faith based organizations and churchs. This includeds employers providing insurance at all levels of education (pre-K thru university); hospitals, medical facilities and pharmacists (those which provide insurance for their employees and forcing those into providing forms of medications and procedures to take babies lives and prevention of life. It is of utmost improtance that the entire religious community in the United States come to realize the grave threats to the its public moral witness presented by a radical secularism which finds increasing expression in the political and cultural spheres. The seriousness of these threats needs to be appreciated at every level of ecclesial life. I ask you to be courageous. We need to counter a reductive secularism which would delegitimize the faithfuls participation in public life and debate have targeted the issues we face in our pro-life efforts, to Susan G. Komen for the Cure issued a statement apologizing for the their recent decision not to give any more grants to Planned Parenthood. BUT -- and this is a big but -- they didnt actually say they will resume giving Planned Parenthood grants. What they DID say is that Planned Parenthood can apply for grants in the future. But thats no guarantee theyll get them. And given the fact that Planned Parenthood doesnt actually DO mammograms -which is what those grants are for -- it seems unlikely they will. Well just have to wait and see. So what does this mean for us pro-lifers? FIRST, it means that we CANNOT support
