1. INTRODUCTION A Report on Hindustan Coca- Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., Bidadi, Bangalore: Our trip began in the afternoon of 22nd September 2011 Thursday. We were 56 students and two faculties for guidance. Our journey started at 2:00 P.M. We were very much excited to see the company and to know how they produce their product. Around 3.30 we have reached our destination. We all have dressed according to their prescription in which wearing shoes was necessary for the safety purpose. Our hearts were palpitating to see the plant. We all assembled in a room where an employee of Coca-Cola Industry has

mentioned the information regarding safety to make our visit peaceful and to reach our expected satisfaction.

Objective of the visit


The main objective of our industrial visit is to understand how the management is being practiced in Hindustan Coca- Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., Bidadi, Bangalore. Our main focus is on the practical application of management principle in real business scenario. We are here to see how the people at Hindustan Coca- Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., Bidadi, Bangalore manage their operations, resources, the demand and supply of

the product i.e. the management of 3Ms: Man, Money and Material.

2. COMPANY PROFILE Coca-Cola Company:

John Syth Pemberton first introduced the refreshing taste of cocacola in Atlanta, Georgia. It was of 1886 when the pharmacist concocted caramel-colored syrup in a three-legged brass kettle in his backyard. He first distributed the new product by carrying CocaCola in a jug down the street to Jacobs pharmacy. For five cents, consumers could enjoy glass of Coca-Cola at the soda fountain. Whether by design or accident, carbonated water was teamed with the new syrup, producing a drink that was proclaimed Delicious and Refreshing. Dr. Pembertons partner and bookkeeper, Frank M. Robinson suggested the name and penned Coca-Cola in the unique flowing script that is famous worldwide today. In 1886 sales of Coca-Cola averaged nine drinks per day. That first Dr. Pemberton sold 25 gallons of syrup, shipped in bright red wooden kegs. By 1891 Atlanta entrepreneur Asa G. Candler had acquired complete

ownership of the Coca-Cola business. Within four years, his merchandising flair helped expand consumption for $ 25 million. Robert W. Woodruff became president of the Coca-Cola Company in 1923, and his more than six decades of leadership took the business to unrivaled heights of commercial success. In 1893, CocaCola was registered with the trademark office followed by Coke in 1945. In 1954 Frank Harold first brings Coca-Cola in India. Today Coca-Cola is best known and most admired trademark, recognized by more than 90% of the worlds population.

The plant is situated at the scenic and peaceful environs of Bangalore, just 15-20 Km from Bnagalore City. The RGB line was a proud addition to the plant, in March 2000. Spread over 25 acres the plant is the only one with canning facilitiies for Coca-Cola in Iinda.

PLANT LAYOUT: The Plant Lyt. Followed in Hindustan Coca- Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., Bidadi, Bangalore is cellular manufacturing lyt., where the cells functions somewhat like a product lyt., within a larger shop or process lyt. Manufacturing of Coca-Cola Pet, washing as well as inspection of Coca-Cola bottles and filling of bottles, pet and can line too occurred under straight line lyt.

However water treatment and syrup formation takes place in different cells. Where raw materials are feeded in to various machines to get the end product. PRODUCT LINE:

is a manfacturing plant. It has three product line: RGB, Pet and Can. Now the Pet and RGB are running. Following are the major brands produced in various pack size: Coke,Sprite,Fanta,Limca and Kinley soda(Recently launched of 200 ml.). The production facility of plant is capable of producing 36,000 RGB cases/day and 66,000 Can cases/day.
The plant is equipped with sophisticated & imported Manufacturing facilities to sustain 'Symbol of Quality'.

SYSTEMS IN PLACE:
believe in systems as it inhales constraints & exhales Customer & Consumer satisfaction. The Plant has Implemented "The Coca-Cola Quality System" (TCCQS) which is a Quality Management System practiced by all the Bottling plants across the world. Present TCCQS Evolution 3 encompasses both External & Stringent Internal Quality Management Systems. A surveillance audit for all the above systems is being carried out at regular frequencies & Plant has successfully cleared all the audits till date. eKO (The Coca Cola Environmental Management

System), eSLP (Environment Safety & Loss Prevention), WRM (Water Resource Management), EMS (Energy Management System), Waste Management, Waste water Management etc. are in practice. These above mentioned Internal QM Systems have been implemented for achieving the continual improvement which will be audited internally to identify further areas of Continual Improvement.

PRODUCTION AND OPERATION MANAGEMENT:

imported from the water tanks situated 3km far from the plant. The water received is treated scientifically for the manufacturing process as well as for washing the bottles

Manufacturing of syrup: Highest quality refined sugar is mixed with treated water to form simple syrup which is pumped through filter to ensure its purity and clarity. Carbonated filter paper is used for this purpose. At this
stage different proportion of sugar is added for manufacturing the syrup of concerned drink like; coke, sprite, fanta etc. Distinctive blend of ingredients are mixed with syrup to form Coca-Cola syrup. Now this syrup is pumped to the De-Aerator Proportioner Cooler carbonator where a proportionate amount of de-aerate water is mixed which is further cooled and carbonated. Now the syrup is ready for filling.

The picture shown in the above is the test tube kind of structure which is used as a raw material for making pet bottles. The above shown tube will be developed into a bottle of 1.25 liter with the help of several advanced machines
as shown and wrapped with label.

The filled coca cola bottle will appear like as shown before.

Filling of pet occurs at low temperature, so once the bottle comes out after labeling it has to pass through a warming machine which brings it to room temperature .
PACKING AND WAREHOUSING:

The bottles filled are further moved to packing place where it is packed in carton boxes. At a time 36 units are packed in 3 boxes. Each box contains 12 units. These boxes are further sent to the distributors, if not then stored in store room at room temperature

Mainly they procure their raw material from Pune and Chennai.
DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM:

Coca-Cola has more than 50 bottling unit in India. Its regional office is situated at Haryana, Mumbai and Hyderabad. Marketing offices are situated at Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh. Hindustan Coca- Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., Bidadi, Bangalore mainly satisfies the customers of Bangalore.
PRICING:

Pricing of the coca-cola bottles are done through all the costs associated, i.e. operational costs, selling and distribution costs, etc. Then the profit margin is also added to the price of the units, and then the transportation costs are added so that it becomes what we get as the ex-showroom price. This price differs from place to place because there is different transportation costs directly associated with it.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION


It was very exciting to visit Hindustan Coca- Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., Bidadi, Bangalore. We have seen

how the management functions are practiced. It was a great experience to go there and get a practical touch with the theory and concepts what we have studied in books. We can conclude that since Coca-Cola has a good image attached to it and hence it should maintain its image, because todays scenario people are very much conscious of their health and look for the value of their money. Hence with such a great brand name established for them is a real advantage for them and with this they can reach to new heights.
