GENERAL

The NEOC is monitoring the tropical depression that had been affecting the North Eastern part of Fiji and now lying west of Ono-i-Lau. The Western Division is so far the worst hit has activated their EOC with the assistance of the Police and the National Fire Authority. WEATHER SITUATION FOR THE FIJI GROUP Weather Bulletin Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 5:30am on Friday the 27th of January 2012. Situation: A shallow tropical depression was located over northern Lau at 3pm today. It is currently slow moving but expected to drift slowly towards the southeast. At this stage it is not expected to develop into a tropical cyclone within the Fiji waters. Associated trough lies slow moving across the northern parts of Fiji. Forecast to midnight tonight for the Fiji group: Occasional rain, heavy at times and few thunderstorms over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Lau group. Occasional showers over the Lomaiviti group, the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu. Elsewhere, fine apart from afternoon and evening showers with possible thunderstorms. Moderate southeast winds, fresh at times over the southern half of Fiji. Elsewhere, moderate to fresh north to northwest winds. Moderate to rough seas. Outlook for SATURDAY : Rain and thunderstorms continuing over Vanua Levu, Taveuni and northern Lau group. Occasional showers over the interior and eastern parts of larger islands. EVACUATION CENTRES Vacation of Evacuations Centre s Commission Western has given a directive of 26 2115hrs 12 that all evacuees sheltering in all schools that are currently Evacuation Centre s are to vacate by midday Saturday 28 1200hrs. This directive is to be cascaded to all Evacuation Centers especially those occupying the schools.

WATER AUTHORITY OF FIJI Sigatoka: Flood level receded. Supply to hotels. Nadi: Operation normal and workmen have been dispatched for maintenance- burst main of 6 at Korovuto, 3 at Mulomulo Koro, 3 at Mulomulo Mosque and 4 at Navakai. Lautoka: Mobilising water carting trucks for water carting to evacuation centres and other concerned affected areas NFA Lautoka is also assisting in the filling of water tanks being placed in the affected areas. Workmen have been dispatched for the cleaning of the Buabua and Nalau dams and also for the major repair works on their respective row water lines. Assessment for Varaqe intake blockage will also be done today.

Ba:

Waiwai NTP still shutdown. Mobilising water carting from Tavua. Pump section to install another 90kw pump and Vakaciva asap. Using a large excavatior for damming Vakaciva WPS and for Waiwai dam deshudgig using a loader to help WS access Power Still off at Ba area.

Tavua: Supply only confirmed to hospital. FEA power still of at Tavua and Vatukoula until further notice. Confirming 24/7 supply to town area including hospital but rationing supply to offtakes to build up Masimasi level. Malel reservoir will be filled when masimasi reaches 2.5m and its concerned zone is still receiving no water as off this morning. Rakiraki: Power restored at 8pm. Flood receded. Hospital is being supplied from our systems. Flushing lines to normalize system.
