and Values Education Grade VI I. Objectives: At the end of the discussion, pupils are expected to: Cognitive : Read and interpret an electric meter Psychomotor : Practice energy conservation tips Affective : Show the value of thrift and economy II. Subject Matter Reading and interpreting an Electric Meter Reference: BEC Step-up Mathematics 6, pp. 331-333 Skill Sharpeners in Elementary Mathematics 6, pp. 86-88 Materials: Models of an electric meter III. Procedure Teacher s Activity A. Preparatory Activities 1. Prayer/Greetings Everybody please stand for our opening prayer. Good afternoon, class! Pupil s Activity

Amen! Good afternoon Sir! Good afternoon classmates!

It seems that you are all happy now. That s very nice. I think you are all ready for our new lesson for this afternoon. Am I right? 2. Drill 1. 9875 -6452 4. 9876 - 7654 3. Review Before we go on to our new lesson, let us first review our lesson yesterday. Who among you can still remember the formula of the plane figures? square? 2. 6975 -5232 5. 8107 - 5346 3. 4837 - 2515

Yes Sir!

Again, what is the formula of

Yes ___________. Excellent! How about the formula of the circle? Excellent! How about the formula of the Trapezoid?

Sir, the formula of square is A = S2

Sir, the formula of circle is A = r2

Sir, the area of the trapezoid is

Excellent! 4. hecking of Assignments Class, let us check your assignment. Did you bring a model of an electric meter? Yes, Sir! Where is the leader of group one? Did you bring the materials? Yes, Sir! How about group two? Did you bring the materials? Yes, Sir! Very Good! A. Lesson Proper 1. Motivation What appliances do you have at home? What makes these appliances work? Do you know how much electricity your household consumes in a month? 2. Presentation (The teacher will present a model of an Electric meter) What do you call this device? Yes, Roselyn! Sir, that is an electric meter. Very Good!

(The student will answer)

Where can you find it? Yes, Mona!

Very Good! What does this device measures? Yes, Georgia! Very Good! (The teacher will explain that the basic unit for measuring electricity is watt. Large quantity of electricity is measured kilowatt-hour.) Let the pupils observe closely the model of an electric meter. Direct their attention to dials (1 s, 100 s, 1000 s) the numbers (0-9) and the pointer in each dial. Lead them to see that the pointers in the First and third dials move counterclockwise, while the second and fourth dials move clockwise. Demonstrate the movement by manipulating the pointers. Point out that the dials would show how many kilowatt-hour electricity were consumed. 3. Discussion If the pointers in the dials move very fast, what does it mean? Yes, Cecil! Very Good! What should one do? Yes, Melanie! Very Good! What measures should a household do to conserve or save energy? Yes, Mark!

Sir we can find electric meter in our home.

Sir electric meter measures how much electricity we consumed.

(The pupils will listen and observe)

Sir if the pointers in the dials move very fast that means there are many appliances being used. Sir one should turn off the appliances which are not in use.

Very Good!

Sir as much as possible each member of the household should only use electric appliances to the most important task in the house.

Why do we need to conserve/save energy? Yes, Jonahbabe

Very Good! 4. Generalization Did you understand the things that we have tackled this afternoon? Again, what is the basic unit for measuring electricity? Very good! What do we use to measure large quantities of electricity? Very good! How do we read an electric meter?

Sir we need to conserve/save energy to lessen the bill that we will pay, and also to lessen the heat produced by the machine of the appliances.

Yes, Sir! Sir, the basic unit for measuring electricity is called watt.

Sir, to measure large quantities of electricity, we use kilowatt-hour.

Sir, we read electric meter from right to left and from the numbers passed by the pointers.

Very good! 5. Fixing Skills Give the reading in kwh.

6. Application After the discussion the teacher will group the students into two groups and give the direction.

7. Valuing What do you think the reason why electric bill A has higher amount of kilowatt-hour consumed than electric bill B? Group A, what is your idea?

Very good! How about your idea group B?

Sir after our discussion we learned and realized that the reason why consumer A gets higher amount of electric bill may be the consumer uses electricity unwisely. Very good! (The teacher will enhance the values infused in the topic) Sir after our discussion we learned that the reason why consumer B gets lower amount of electric bill may be the members of their family use their electricity wisely and just enough on their needs. Our group realized that using and saving electricity wisely will help us to lessen the bill we pay.

IV.

Evaluation Give the reading in kwh.
