Singer returns to share her story at concerts

FORMER high-prole Border music identity Margy Maneld will return to the region to perform in Wodonga and Beechworth this weekend. Maneld and Border performer Ted Lawrence ran a high-prole Border entertainment agency in the 1990s called The Agency MMM. The pair brought major touring acts to town and organised entertainment for Alburys late, lamented Albury music hotspot The Termo, which burnt down in January, 2005. People always knew theyd get a great night out at The Termo, Maneld says. Maneld, who strutted the Border stages with her rock band Broken Promises in the 1990s, will return to the region with a very different message. Also in the band were her husband Russ, on keyboards; Dale Tassie, lead guitar; Anton Salter and John Spasic, bass; and Darren Jones, drums. I sang in a few shows and in Big Brother, which was Russ, myself and Dallas Philby, she says. We also used to do a jazz thing with Tony Boon, Simon Mills and Dave Amster. After a marriage breakdown and a life of living on the edge, Maneld underwent a major life change in 1993 when she experienced a spiritual encounter. I went from broken promises to a life of promise, she says. Maneld, who was born at Finley and now lives in Queensland, will share her story in words and song at churches in Beechworth and Wodonga on Sunday. After eight years out of the music industry, Maneld released her rst Christian CD, Come As You Are, in 2003, scoring national airplay on Christian radio stations across Australia and New Zealand. Her recently released album More Than This is also being played nationally and features songs co-written by her former Big Brother band-mate, New York musician Simon Mills who once played in the Albury-Wodonga band Leave It to Beaver. Margy Maneld will perform songs from both of the albums and share her experience of Gods restoration of her life and marriage at this Sundays concerts: 10.30am at Beechworths Riverland Christian Church and 5pm at Wodongas Faith City Church.
