FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE DECEMBER 1st, 2011 OLYMPIC GOLD MEDAL WINNER TO OPEN AFL SWIMMING POOL Australian

Olympic gold medal winner Shane Gould will officially open AFLs renovated swimming pool at the AFL housing estate (CAAF Compound) on Saturday, December 3 at 10 a.m. Ms. Gould first learned to swim at the AFL pool at age 6, the beginning of a journey that resulted in her winning three gold medals, a silver and a bronze at the l972 Olympics. The swimming pool is adjacent to the Airport Club; a popular meeting place for staff before it closed in the l990s. The site is now being reviewed for possible redevelopment that could include a gym and bar. Ms. Gould will open the Olympic regulation 25 metre, five lane swimming pool that will not only service those living in the compounds 186 houses but will be available to young aspirants who would like to follow in Shane Goulds footsteps. The opening of the swimming pool opens opportunities to redevelop the entire complex, said AFL CEO Mr. Tony Gollin. He said that AFL is presently reviewing possibilities that could include the redevelopment of the Nadi Sports & Social Club as well as a gymnasium. In the evening Ms. Gould will join with other sports stars and celebrities at StyleFiji 2011, a fashion extravaganza being held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa. This is part of the fund raising activities by Project Bula Mai; a charity Trust which supports the Nadi Community Hospital and of which AFL is a key corporate sponsor. AFL, through Project Bula Mai, has donated $7,500 to help with the immediate upgrade of crucial equipment and infrastructure required at the Nadi Community Hospital. Mr. Gollin said that AFL was delighted to be able to contribute to such a worthy cause. At AFL we are committed to provide assistance to projects that improve the quality of life for the people of Fiji. Nadi Hospital is certainly one of these projects.
