Students will understand that: A blog is a publishing tool which is sometimes also know as weblog that allows authors to instantly and easily publish text, links from other websites, videos, images, or a whole collection of other matters in their own created blogs. The benefits of a blog(i.e. they are easy to create and update efficiently) Understand how to create their own blog Understand how to share their blog pages with their peers

Learning Plan (Stage 3)


Where are your students headed? Where have they been? How will you make sure the students know where they are going?

Students will plan learn to create their own blogs followed by the guidance of a step-bystep process shown by the teacher on the projector. Teacher will frequently check whether everyone has reached the same step as creating and teaching information on how to manage and edit blogs (10minutes) 1) The lesson will begin by asking students to voluntarily point out examples on what tools can be used to highlight what happens in their lives( i.e. journals, diaries, blogs) 2) Teacher will introduce their task for today, creating a blog. Teacher will define what is a Blog-or Web log. Pointing out that blogs can be viewed and shared with everyone. 3) Teacher will ask students to raise their hands for those who have already created any types of Blogs before.

How will you hook students at the beginning of the unit?

4) Teacher will show a video on What is a Blog, its benefits, and a summary of what can be done on a Blogger(teacher will address this is the tool they will be using today): (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uMP_3UkEMYc) (Video: 0 to 3:58minutes) 5) Teacher will now summarize the video and point out briefly on what can be done on Blogs: a. ability to freely share thoughts and achievements with others b. can post reflective journals, opinions, or any questions c. other bloggers may post on your blogs d. set the topics for your posts leads to deeper thinking activities e. manage your blog the way you wish f. Blogging can help you write back to each other, and also conversation with questions and critique *Teacher may answer student questions regarding the video 6) Teacher will tell students their main objective for the day which is to make their own Blog( that will be regularly updated for the next few days) 7) Teacher will address student that the topic of their individual blogs will be based on what they already know about the terrorist attack on September 11, 2011 in general as well as, the aftermath of the attack in America which had destroyed the Twin Towers.
What events will help students experience and explore the big idea and questions in the unit? How will you equip them with needed skills and knowledge?

Students will explore the Blogger to create their own blogs and learn the features of Blogger. Teacher will guide students step-by-step as followed: How to make your own account for the blog(10minutes):

Teacher will ask students to log on to www.blogger.com. Teacher will ask students to conduct the following steps( teacher will guide the steps as she as well conducts them on her computer which is projected onto a projector that all students can view):

Part 1: Creating a Blog o Those who have a Google account already can use that to sign. Those who dont must click on the tab Get Started which will allow them to create a Google account. o To create a account teacher will list the following needs: An e-mail address Password A display name Birthday

Part 2: Create a title for your blog o Students will give a name to their Blogs(teacher will point out that this name can be changed later) o Students will enter a URL(teacher will point out that this URL cannot be changed later) Part 3: Accept terms and select a template o Students will choose a template for their blogs ( teacher will point out that this template can be changed and customized later) Posting blogs (20minutes) o Teacher will make sure whether everyone has reached the same page on

the blog site Part 1: Edit your written text o Teacher will explain how to post and what can be added in the posts: Create a Title as done on any regular web-mail. Teacher will inform students that in their blog posting later they will write it about what they know about the 9/11 attack and its aftermath. . Teacher will explain some basic features: Like Microsoft word and any web-mails you may edit your written text by highlighting, bolding, underlining and many other techniques. Explain the tab Label on the left-hand bottom corner for them to make it easier to search their blog posts later on. Part 2: Insert videos, images, web-links or other widgets o Teachers will explain students how to add videos and images by showing an example on the blog created by the teacher. Simply by adding a html link of a video on the writing section the video will be shown once the post is published By clicking an icon( shown by teacher) one can add any image from the hard drive

o Teacher will address students to save their posts as drafts regularly for done work not to be lost

o Teacher will ask students to click on the PUBLISH POST tab Part 3: Add your peers o Students will now click on the home icon on the right hand top corner to be directed to the dashboard o Students will now click on the settings tab to set the Viewing, Writing, and Commenting Permissions. o Students will select the last name on the tab line named as Permission. o In the Blog Authors section students will select the tab Add authors o In the Blog Readers block students will select the options of who they wish to read their blog o To add others students will type in the e-mail addresses of the student sitting on the right and left of their seats for the time being to commence writing posts on others blog. o Teacher will point out that making others authors will give those students permission to write their own posts only. They may not edit any other posts or edit the design on the blog. o Students will now click on the tab comments to set the permissions for commenting. In this case, since only students must be allowed to comment students will select in the Who can Comment? section the option of Only members of the blog. Teacher will briefly discuss other options on present on the Comment tab. Part 4: Edit your Blog! o Following the teacher students will click on the Design tab to edit the look of their blog the way they wish using the options provided. o First, teacher will show students that they can click on the Add a

gadget explaining how to search for new gadgets and pressing the + symbol to add it onto the blog. o Teacher will wrap up with any questions asked by students on how to manage their blogs
How will you cause students to reflect and rethink? How will you guide them in rehearsing, revising, and refining their work?

Teacher will ask all students to write their e-mail address on a paper which will be passed around the room. To understand the usage of the Blog and rehearse on how to post or edit their blogs students will: o Meanwhile, as the students write their names, tteacher will ask students now add their posts based on their knowledge and understanding about the 9/11 attacks or its aftermath (explained in more detail) Since each student must have 2 peers on their blogs each peer will look at one anothers blog and comment or post on others blog to rehearse using Blogger. (20-25minutes) Teacher will make 25 copies of the e-mail addresses as students work on their work. Copies will be handed out to each student and teacher will ask everyone to add at least 10 students for homework on to their blogs. For those who do not have a computer must complete this for tomorrow after school at the computer lab.

How will you help students to exhibit and selfevaluate their growing skills, knowledge, and understanding throughout the unit?

o Students will be told to play around with the icons on Blogger as they write their posts. o Students will be addressed to get comfortable with the blog for the next few classes. o Teacher will asked students to write half a page reflection on how they felt about creating a blog (5-10minutes). While conducting the step-by-step process on creating the blogs with the students teacher will wait till everyone has reached the same steps. Teacher will ask all students to ask any questions as they feel puzzled on the usage of Blogger

How will you tailor and otherwise personalize the learning plan to optimize the engagement and effectiveness of ALL students, without compromising the goals of the unit?

o Provide opportunities for students to be at the same step by while learning Blogger o Provide students to brainstorm whatever they wish on the 9/11 attacks without any emphasis on a topic. o Blogs will be created as a class together with teacher instructions o Students must add 2 people on to their blogs while creating the blogs together with the class
