Attendance: You are expected to attend every class session and be present at the start of class. Class time also serves as our team meeting where we conduct business, finalize tournament entries, and give information about upcoming events. If you are not present, you will miss important information and may not be registered for competitions. If you are unable to attend class because of an emergency, contact a coach before class starts! Each missed class will be a 50 point deduction from your attendance grade. Exceptions granted by coach approval only.

Tardies: If you are more than 15 minutes late, you are tardy. 3 tardies = 1 absence. Class Participation: You must show up for every class prepared to participate and perform. During the course of the semester you will prepare and perform three in class events (Extemp, Imp, and Parli). You should always have your speech text/outline, debate evidence, or interp book with you. Even if its just reading something to the group, you will perform something every week in class. Outside Coaching: You are expected to have regular coaching appointments to develop new events and practice your existing ones. For scheduled coaching appointments, you must be on time and prepared for the appointment. Prepared means you have your script, research/outline, and have completed any homework from your last coaching session. These outside meetings are in addition to our mandatory Friday workdays. Public Performance: SPCH 17 requires your performance at a minimum of three (3) public/team events. These include: tournaments, team retreats, and other public performances. You will lose substantial points from this grade if you: Fail to show up at a tournament performance in which you are scheduled (you will also be responsible for paying your entry/drop fees). Are late to rounds without good cause. Are a poor audience member for any public performance. OTHER CONTACT You MUST be a member of our SpeechGeeks Yahoo Group to participate on the team. Sign up at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Speechgeeks. If you are having trouble, ask a coach for help. This group is where we will send out team announcements, information sheets for tournaments, team contact list, etc. If you do not set your preference to receive individual emails, you need to check the group every other day to see if there are any critical announcements. LOOKING AHEAD Its only the Fall semester, but we are already starting to think about state and national championships in March/April. If you would like to be considered for that team, notify a coach immediately! Being considered for that team will impact what tournaments and events we suggest for you. Additional Expectations: This class has arranged hours outside of the normal meeting time. You are expected to spend additional hours working on events and attending tournaments. Make sure you are keeping up and spending enough time working on your events practice on your own as well as meet with coaches!
