Definition

Op-amp may be used to design a circuit whose

output is difference of input signals. such a

circuit is called difference amplifier or subtractor

 The figure shows a basic differential amplifier

used as a subtractor

 The values of all resistors are equal

 Thus gain of the amplifier is 1

 Thus the output voltage is equal to the voltage Vb

applied to the non inverting terminal minus the

voltage Va applied to the inverting terminal

 Hence the circuit is called the subtractor
