This activity is called a 'Cloze Reading in which you will receive two diIIerent copies oI the same text
in which diIIerent words have been blanked out
1. In pairs, reconstruct the text, then analyze it
2. On the given page, make notes regarding any observations, questions, or Ieelings you get Irom
the lyrics as you read. Pay special attention to how the poem begins and ends.
3. Write a short response (approximately halI a page) on the above lyrics. Ask yourselves
questions such as:
a. What do you know about the artist and/or song?
b. What is the overall meaning oI the song?
c. What elements in the poem lead you to your particular observations? How does the poet
achieve this eIIect?
d. What poetic devices are the authors using? Give speciIic examples and cite the line
numbers

your choice. You will be breaking down and examining the poetic components and devices oI
the song.
Your essay should be approximately 1000 words (not less), double-spaced, size 12, Times ew
Roman or Courier Iont.
Your essay should have a title page included with at least one illustration, hand-drawn (and
colored) that is signiIicant or related in some way to the song and/or your interpretation. Include
the artist and song title.
In your response, consider the Iollowing questions:

you? Why did you design your title page the way you did?
