Thanks for your Interest In Modern-Shed! When Ryan Grey Smith and his wife, Ahna Holder bought their Seattle are home in 1998, it didnt have a garage, a basement or an attic. The 1940s era house was advertised as a teardown, a candidate for demolition. The two architects renovated the home themselves. Their solution for the lack of storage space? Simple enough: they built a shed. But it wasnt just any shed. Their shed was less like a typical garden shed, and more like a chic outdoor room of the house, a hideaway for storage, working and relaxing. The ways in which these structures can function are vast, and custom options by Modern-Shed provide each user the liberty to choose for themselves. Top 8 Modern-Shed Questions
1: How is a Modern-Shed Constructed? Answer: Modern-Shed uses Pre-Fabricated panels built in the factory. For information on how the panels are put together please see the assembly drawings to the right. These are typical assemblies that apply to the majority of our smaller sheds. 2: Do I need a Building Permit to construct a Modern-Shed on my property? Answer: In the majority of Municipalities you do not require a Building Permit for structures of 120 Sq/Ft or under. However we recommend you contact your municipal Planning Department to confirm your local requirements. 3: Will my Modern-Shed be Insulated? Answer: Yes, and there are several options: Roof = R-30 or R-40 | Floor = R-21 or R-25 or R-30 | Walls = R-13 or R-21 Should you require more or less insulation that can usually be accommodated. 4: What type of Foundation is required for my Modern-Shed? Answer: There are 3 different foundation options currently available: Concrete Pier Blocks: Pier blocks are placed on a bed of gravel or a small concrete pad. The shed is then installed on top with leveling screws that allow us to adjust the building level. Concrete Piles: 3-5 Ft deep holes are dug and Sono Tubes placed inside and filled with concrete. The shed is then installed on-top of the piles with leveling screws that allow us to adjust the building level. Poured In Place Concrete Pad: The site is excavated and forms are built. Once the concrete pad is laid the building is erected directly on top of the pad. 5: Can I install a Modern-Shed Myself? Answer: Yes, please contact your Modern-Shed Dealer for more details. 6: Can I have electricity in my Modern-Shed? Answer: Yes. 7: Can my Modern-Shed be heated? Answer: Yes, provided you have an electrical connection to your shed there are several electric heating options available for you including NuHeat in floor heating. Wood or Gas fireplaces can also be added. 8: Can I add plumbing to my Modern-Shed Answer: Yes, provided the overall size of the shed you choose can accommodate it.

DIY Installation
So, you want a Modern-Shed but you want to build it yourself... NO PROBLEM! Building a ModernShed makes a great Do-It-Yourself construction project provided you have a basic understanding of construction techniques. A typical Modern-Shed can be built with just 13 tools, most of which you probably already own. Any specialty items such as torque bits and nut drivers we provide for you in your installation kit. Smaller sheds such as our 8x10 can usually be installed in 3 days with a crew of 3 people.
Installation Services
Many of our dealers are also installers or have installation crews that they work with. The cost to install a shed varies based on Sq/Ft and location. Larger sheds may require additional engineering and foundation work. All project are quoted on a job by job basis.
Warranties
Limited Warranty: Modern-Shed warrants to the original purchaser of the Product that, should there be any defects in the material or workmanship on the materials supplied by Modern-Shed during the initial sixty (60) days from your receipt of the Product, Modern-Shed will repair or replace the defective component(s) at its option.You must notify Modern-Shed of any claim of defects in the material or workmanship within sixty (60) days after your receipt of the Product. Said notice must be in writing, set forth specifically the basis for the claim, and include a photograph of the defect). The failure to satisfy the requirements above will constitute irrevocable acceptance of the Product.
