Statement from Church of Scientology on Fair Work Ombudsman Final Report

16 September 2011 Todays Fair Work Ombudsman decision that the Church of Scientology staff are volunteers vindicates the Church and is a victory for all religions and charities in Australia. "Staff of Scientology churches signed agreements to work as volunteers and are doing so freely, wishing to help their Church and the wider community," Ms Dunstan, president of the Church of Scientology of Australia, said. "Todays decision is a terric outcome for Australias charitable sector and for religious freedom. Our staff work hard to promote their religious beliefs and in a wide range of charitable programs in the areas of drug education, literacy, numeracy, human rights education and disaster aid. They do that knowing its voluntary and do not expect to be paid for their efforts." The Church has a long history in this country of ghting for human rights and religious freedom. Volunteers can help transform our communities for the benet of all people. Nearly two years has passed since baseless allegations run in the media prompted the FWO investigation. The Church now expects the authors of these allegations to apologise publicly to the Scientology community. The High Court of Australia ruled in 1983 that Scientology is a bona de religion in a decision that has become a landmark and is quoted all over the world. The Church of Scientology is happy to be able to now refocus its efforts and attention toward its social betterment programs and the religious purpose its volunteers daily strive to achieve.
