There will be new words introduced each week. We make word cards in class which will be sent home on Friday in the Friday Folder. Please accumulate these cards and review them regularly with your child. They should be able to call each word within 3 seconds. This weeks new words are:

What we are learning

In Reading-We are learning procedures for working at reading instruction time. Our reading block is 90 minutes long. In Writing-We are working on using invented spelling to write anything that they can say. The writer stretches the sounds and writes the letters they hear to form a message. In Math-We will review some of the math concepts that they learned in kindergarten, then we will launch into first grade math. The new standards dictate that we work on less concepts, but we cover them more in depth.

Help needed! We will need a parent for each day of the week, on an ongoing basis, to come in at the beginning of the day to have the children read to you. You will then check out new books to them. I already have Mondays and Wednesdays covered.

Our Calendar. *Mon., Aug. 29-Homework will begin coming home. Each Monday several math worksheets and a phonics worksheet (front & back) will come home. They are due back each Thursday.
Thurs., Sept. 1, 6:00-6:30 -Title 1 parent meeting at in the Landry Building (the building in the back) 6:30-7:30-Open House-Come learn a little bit more about your childs school day. Mon., Sept. 5-Labor Day! No School!
