First of all I would like to say Alhamdulillah because Allah Almighty has given me

the strength to perform successfully my career folio.

Furthermore, my parents greatly assisted me to complete this career folio. My

parents helped a lot as the capital for me to go to places associated with my career. They

allowed me to sleep through the night because they want me to complete this folio with

the comprehensive.

Next I would like to express our appreciation to my friends which are willing to spend

time with me to complete this folio although they are also busy to complete its own folio.

They also helped me and give a little information on the career I chose.

Finally, my career folio was finished by the efforts from those willing help me to

complete this career folio. Gratitude once again to those involved in preparing this folio with

perfect and orderly.

I was required to complete the relevant folio of Geomatics Engineering. I can make

this folio is less than a week. I get the material on this project through the website and the

scientific materials and articles.

I chose my career as Geomatics Engineering because I very interested in subjects

related to physics, mathematics, and science of geomatics-related subjects. Through

this folio can I find out more information about the prospective of Geomatics Engineering

Lead after my graduation later. I also know about the history of Geomatics Engineering.

Without making this folio, I inconvenient to understands what exactly the Geomatics

Engineering.

In addition, I also know about the trials and challenges that would befall a Geomatics

Engineer is associated with other sector. Finally, I can know about the advantages of

Geomatics Engineering in my employee.

(Geomatics engineering)

What is the geomatics engineering?

Geomatics Engineering, Geomatic Engineering, or Geospatial Engineering is a

rapidly developing discipline that focuses on spatial information (i.e. information that has a

location). The location is the primary factor used to integrate a very wide range of data for

viewing and analysis. Geomatics Engineers apply engineering principles to spatial

information and implement relational data structures involving measurement sciences, thus

using geomatics and acting as spatial information engineers. Geomatics Engineers manage

local, regional, national and global spatial data infrastructures.

Geomatics is a new term incorporating the older field of land surveying along with

many other aspects of spatial data management. Following the advanced developments in

digital data processing, the nature of the tasks required of the professional land surveyor has

evolved and the term "surveying" no longer accurately covers the whole range of tasks that

the profession deals with. As our societies become more complex, information with a spatial

position associated with it becomes more critical to decision-making, both from a personal

and a business perspective, and also from a community and a large-scale governmental

viewpoint.
Therefore, the Geomatics Engineer can be involved in an extremely wide variety of

information gathering activities and applications. Geomatics engineers design, develop, and

operate systems for collecting and analyzing spatial information about the land, the oceans,

natural resources, and manmade features. Geomatics Engineering applications include

integrating science and technology from both new and traditional disciplines.

The more traditional land surveying strand of Geomatics Engineering is concerned

with the determination and recording of boundaries and areas of real property parcels, and the

preparation and interpretation of legal land descriptions. The tasks more closely related to

civil engineering include the design and layout of public infrastructure and urban

subdivisions, and mapping and control surveys for construction projects.

Geomatics Engineers serve society by collecting, monitoring, archiving, and

maintaining diverse spatial data infrastructures. Geomatics Engineers utilize a wide range of

technologically advanced tools such as digital theodolite/distance meter total stations, Global

Positioning System (GPS) equipment, digital aerial imagery (both satellite and air-borne),

and computer-based geographic information systems (GIS). These tools enable the

Geomatics Engineer to gather, analyze, and manage spatially related information to solve a

wide range of technical and societal problems.

Geomatics Engineering is the field of activity that integrates the acquisition,

processing, analysis, display and management of spatial information. It is an exciting and

new grouping of subjects in the spatial and environmental information sciences with a broad

range of employment opportunities as well as offering challenging pure and applied research

problems in a vast range of interdisciplinary fields.

In different schools and in different countries the same education curriculum is

administered with the name surveying in some, and in others with the name Geomatics

Engineering. While these occupations were at one time often taught in civil engineering

education programs, more and more universities include the departments relevant for geo-

data sciences under informatics, computer science or applied mathematics. These facts

demonstrate the breadth, depth and scope of the highly interdisciplinary nature of Geomatics

Engineering.
Branches of Geomatics Engineering

Geomatics Engineering is the very extensive area in the past and present which includes

the integration of science and technology. Branches of this field are:

Geodesy, also called geodetic science

Global Positioning System (GPS) or Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)

Surveying (including land survey, cadastral, aerial, mining, topographic and engineering

surveying)

Cartography, computer and digital mapping and computer aided visualization

Geographic information systems (GIS) and geographic information science

Hydrography, navigation, and spatial marine data system

Remote sensing

Photogrammetry and aerial survey

Land information systems (LIS)

Utility mapping and underground surveying

Qualification for enter this field

Before venturing into the field of Geomatics Engineering (land surveyor). I should

study hard and get the highest grades in subjects that related to the field like physics,

mathematics and additional mathematics.

These subjects should be mastered by me and emphasized because the subject has

helped me to continue my studies in Geomatics Engineering. The subjects should A+ to

allow me to take this field and continue the studies in Geomatics Engineering at overseas.

The subject should be grade A+:

description of the tasks in this field
In the field of Geomatics Engineering there are many tasks that are divided into the

chosen career. Career that I choose is the cadastral (land surveyors licensed). Description in

this career includes:

1. Demarcation surveying.

A duty to making Land Surveyors border demarcation, which measures

ground level land progressed to work "setting out" to determine the position

of the building progressed. It is important to ensure that the border will be

made and the building was constructed in the area of the employer.

If the Surveyor failed to do so then it will cause problems to the employer

and the contractor when the project will progress.

2. Provide relevant drawing.

In addition the Land Surveyors must also prepare drawings and plans

relating to the erection work will be done by the contractor. Besides,

the Land Surveyors must also submit plans and drawings affected the

Quantity Surveyors to determine cost estimates will be used for earthworks

to be done.
3. Advise the department on policy formulation through the provision of

cadastral laws, regulations and circulars of the director-general surveying

and mapping survey

4. Planning and overseeing the work of cadastral survey and cadastral data

bases held by the state department to be completed within the period as well

as meet the goals set.

5. Oversee the performance and quality of cadastral surveys are conducted

by licensed land surveyors (JTB) to comply with laws and regulations have

been established (LLS). Job performance can be evaluated through a report

prepared by the state department. While quality can be determined through

random checks in the field.

6. Planning and implementing the development of cadastral systems are always

right around the department states that cover aspects of working in the field

and in the office.

Despite this challenging career, but is able to give satisfaction to them. In

addition, salaries and remuneration are good and being able to attract these students

to pursue this careers. Currently, the starting salary is a land surveyor of RM 2500.00

to RM 3000.00 per month.

Income per career in Geomatics Engineering varies approval and where

they work. For example, the salary of a hydrographer outside the country is within

3000USD to 5000USD a month.

For workers who have experienced their salary will be multiplied 2

times the starting salary. Furthermore, if the employee had opened his own

company, the estimated income of tens of thousands to tens

of millions in each project received.

Places to work:

Public sector employment is available at the Department of Survey and Mapping

Malaysia (JUPEM), Ministry of natural resources (NRE) and other departments concerned.

Their public sector can also increase the grade level to the highest office of the Director,

Manager and General Manager. For those interested in becoming a Lecturer at the

Universities or other higher education institutions they need to have additional

qualifications such as Masters or Doctorate degree in related field.

In private sector employment opportunities and career prospects are good for this

position. There are the companies licensed surveyors as PROMAP Survey Consultant,

Surveyor Jauhari and related companies. They can raise higher position as Manager,

Assistant Manager and Manager of the possibility of the Company. They can also establish

their own businesses or become consultants to other agencies or statutory bodies.

In my opinion, Geomatics Engineering is not difficult to me for because there is a

proverb saying, where there is a will, there is a way. I must study hard to achieve my dreams.

No success without effort. I also will try to improve an important subject for Geomatics

Engineering studies, even though I know I am very weak in the subjects required for further

studies in the Geomatics Engineering. Geomatics Engineering is exciting field for me

because we worked with the study thus helping the world to facilitate the process

of surveying, mapping and the related works.
