NATIONAL TRAILS DAY PROJECT ON SATURDAY

Hamilton, MT. – Bitterroot Back Country Horsemen (BBCH) and Boy Scout Troop 117 will join forces on
National Trails Day this Saturday, June 4, to complete maintenance on trails in the Larry Creek area on the
Bitterroot National Forest, Stevensville Ranger District.

Volunteers will meet in the horse trailer parking area at 8:30am for safety and project information. Trail work
starts at 9:00am with lunch to follow at 12:30pm with potluck dishes provided by BBCH members. This is a
popular hiking and horseback riding area that gets heavy use, so hikers and riders should be on alert this
weekend and watch out for volunteer work crews. For more information, contact project leader Lenny Standish
at (406) 369-0188 or visit www.bchmt.org/bitterroot

The American Hiking Society established the first Saturday in June as National Trails Day, hoping to inspire the
public and trail enthusiasts nationwide to seek out their favorite trails to discover, learn about, and celebrate.
This marks the 4th year in a row that BBCH has partnered with the Bitterroot National Forest on a National
Trails Day project.

BBCH was established more than 30 years ago and was one of the first chapters in the nation. Their goal is to
ensure that stock users can continue to access backcountry and wilderness trails. The club annually contributes
over 600 personal hours and 425 stock hours on projects, most on the National Forest, that create significant
benefits for all trail users and for the natural resources.
