Aerobic vs. Anaerobic

Aerobics is a form of physical exercise where there is a central goal to gain both

flexibility and muscle strength. Aerobic exercises use equal amounts of oxygen to produce

activities that can be prolonged for a long period of time. They generally improve oxygen

consumption and produce body metabolism. Anaerobics is an exercise mostly used by athletes

that compete in non-endured sports to promote muscle strength, speed and power. The energy

required to complete these exercises exceed the oxygen in the body; which forces the body to

work without oxygen. Therefore these tasks can only be performed for short periods of times.

Aerobic exercises include: cycling, kick-boxing, jump rope, jogging, running, swimming and

activities on the tread mill. Anaerobics activities consist of dumbbells, pull-ups, push-ups,

sprinting, weight-lifting and resistance machines.
