Set up Initialization Parameters and Start an ASM Instance


Create a Database with an ASM Instance Using the DBCA

To create a database with an ASM instance using the DBCA:

1. Choose Start→Programs→Oracle→Configuration And Migration Tools→Database Configuration Assistant.


2. On the Welcome page, click Next.
3. On the Operations page, verify that Create A Database is selected, and click Next.
4. On the Database Templates page, select General Purpose and click Next.
5. On the Database Identification page, in the Global Database Name text box, type and click Next.
6. On the Management Options page, choose the default option, Use Database Control For Database Management, and
click Next.
7. On the Database Credentials page, enter a password, confirm the password, and click Next.
8. On the Storage Options page, choose Automatic Storage Management (ASM) and click Next.
9. On the Create ASM Instance page, enter a password, confirm the password, and click Next.
10. To create and start the ASM instance, in the Database Configuration Assistant dialog box, click OK.
11. On the ASM Disk Groups page, click Create New.
12. On the Create Disk Group page, in the Disk Group Name text box, type . Under Redundancy, choose the appropriate
option:
¡ High
¡ Normal
¡ External
13. Click Change Disk Path. In the Disk Recovery Path text box, type '\.*:' and click OK.
14. On the Create Disk Group page, under Select Member Disks, select the appropriate member disks and click OK.
15. On the ASM Disk Groups page, under Available Disk Groups, select the appropriate disk groups and click Next.
16. On the Database File Locations page, select the default option, Use Oracle_Managed Files, enter the new +, and click
Next.
17. On the Recovery Configuration page, accept the default options, Specify Flash Recovery Area, +, and 2048, and click
Next.
18. On the Database Content page, click Next.
19. On the Initialization Parameters page, select Typical and click Next.
20. On the Database Storage page, accept the default values and click Next.
21. On the Creation Options page, accept the default option, Create Database, and click Finish.
22. On the Confirmation page, click OK.
23. After the database has been created, in the Database Configuration Assistant dialog box that states “Database
creation complete,” click Exit.
