TAKE 10 GM OF WOOD SAMPLE (BONE DRY) IN A 500ML BEAKER ADD 200-250ML WATER
AND BOIL IT FOR 30 – 40 MTS , NOW FILTER IT (IN BOILING CONDITION) IN A 250ML VOL.
FLASK USING F.P- 41 (1PC) & MAKE UP 250ML USING HOT WATER WASHING- FLAKES.
COOL FILTRATE AT ROOM TEMP.
NOW TAKE 100ML OF ABOVE FILTRATE IN A CON.
FLASK-250ML, ADD 1GM LEAD ACETATE – PPT FORMED IN FORM OF TANNIN, KEEP IT
FOR SETTELING FOR 10MTS, NOW FILTER THIS IN A BEAKER USING 40/41 FP (1PC) SAME
TIME GIVE 2-5ML WASHING TO BEAKER INNER SURFACE. NOW ADD CONC H2SO4 1ML
(5-10 DROPS) IN FILTRATE. NOW USING 40/41FP (3PC) FILTER IT IN A CON FLASK. NOW
KEEP IT FOR WATER BATH FOR 30MTS THAN COOL IT AT ROOM TEMP & ADD 8-10
PALLETS OF NAOH (PH 11 – 12) CHECK IT WITH PH PAPER-ADD MORE TO ACHIEVE PH 11-
12. MAINTAIN 100ML MAKEUP. TAKE 25ML FROM THIS IN A CON FLASK250ML ADD
25ML MULLAR SOLUTION – BOIL IT FOR 10MTS IN WATER BATH-COOL IT AT ROOM
TEMP.NOW MAKE ITS PH BETWEEN 6 – 6.5 BY USING ACITIC ACID & PH METER. NOW
ADD 50ML IODINE SOL. & TITRATE IT WITH SODIUM THIO SULPHATE. NOTE DOWN
BURETTE READING USING STARCH INDICATOR.

TANNIN TEST:

TAKE 20ML OF SOLUTION (1ST FILTRATE OF SUGAR TESTING) IN


16*160 MM TEST TUBE, ADD 0.7 GM LEAD ACETATE FOR SETTELING OF TANNIN. NOW
CHECK TANNIN HEIGHT AFTER 2HRS & 24 HRS RESPECTIVELY & CHECK ITS VALUE
FROM TANNIN TABLE.

PH TEST:
6 - 6.5 FOR ECULYPTUS
5 - 6 FOR POPLAR

TAKE REST OF THE FILTRATE (SUGAR TEST) & CHECK ITS PH USING PH
METER.

SANDERMAN TEST FOR SUGAR:


1) TAKE 20 GM BONE DRY FLAKES SAMPLE, ADD 200
GM OF CEMENT AND ADD 90-100 ML WATER & MIX IT PROPERLY MAINTAINING TEMP
27*C +- 2*C, NOW FILL THE MOULDS & KEEP IT FOR 24 HRS.
NOW CHECK ITS SOUND & BREAKAGE.

2) WITH CHEMICALS: SAME ABOVE, ONLY IN 90-100 ML WATER ADD 0.8 GM OF ALUM
OR ADD 50 ML OF ALUM FROM PREP TANK.

SOLUTION PREPARATION

1) IODINE: TAKE 1.290 – 1.295 GM OF IODINE + 6 GM OF POTTASIUM IODIDE + 5 ML


D.WATER IN 1000 ML SUN LIGHT PROTECTED VOL. FLASK, NOW DISSOLVE IT
COMPLETELY BY SHAKEING IT WELL THAN MAKE UP TO 1000 ML.

2) SODIUM THIO SULPHATE: TAKE 2.48 GM SOD THIO SUL. ADD 20 – 25 ML D.WATER,
DISSOLVE IT & MAKE UP TO 1000 ML.

3) MULLAR SOL: A) TAKE 34 GM FUSION MIXTURE + 86.5 GM SODIUM POTTASIUM


TARTRATE IN A BEAKER, ADD 150 – 200 ML HOT D.WATER & DISSOLVE IT (IF NOT
DISSOLVED BOIL IT).
B) TAKE 17.5 GM COPPER SULPHATE OR CUPRIC SULPHATE + 150 ML HOT D. WATER &
DISSOLVE IT (IF NOT DISSOLVED BOIL IT).
NOW COOL BOTH SOLUTIONS AT ROOM TEMP, ADD A & B SLOWLY AND MAKE UP TO
500 ML IN 500 VOL FLASK.
4) STARCH INDICATOR: TAKE 5 GM OF STARCH POWDER & MAKE ITS PASTE USING
SOME HOT D WATER & MAKE UP TO 100 ML.

STANDERDIZATION OF SOLUTIONS

IODINE / SOD THIO SULPHATE


TAKE 25 ML IODINE IN A CONICAL FLASK ADD 2-3
DROPS OF STARCH INDICATOR, NOW TITRATE WITH SOD THIO SULPHATE & NOTE
DOWN BURETTE READING.

CALCULATION: 25ML IODINE = 25ML SOD THIO SUL, THAN INVERT SUGAR IS = 0.3
IF 25ML IODINE = 24ML SOD THIO SUL
THAN INVERT SUGAR = ( 0.3 *24) / 25 = 0.288
ONLY 24.5 IS ACCEPTABLE OR MAKE NEW SOLUTION.
RAW TESTING
1. SODIUM SILICATE (Na2SiO3)
A) SiO2 TEST: TAKE 1 gm SAMPLE ADD SOME BOIL WATER, ADD 10 ml 1 : 1 HCL
THAN BAKE IT ON HOT PLATE AT100 c – GIVE SOME PAD TO AVOID BUMPING.
