Graduate Internship Objectives

The following objectives are outlined to assist the Graduate Intern in understanding the outcomes for their
internship. The objectives may be amended to accommodate the needs of the program and/or the intern.

I. COUNSELING

_____ Shadow a counselor during one-on-one counseling sessions with community college students.
_____ Learn and utilize the counseling policies, procedures, forms and technology used by Los Angeles
Southwest College.
_____ Learn and articulate transfer agreements and processes for the four-year institutions.
_____ Attend counseling meetings and/or trainings for professional development and/or networking.
_____ Learn and articulate the Los Angeles Southwest College financial aid process.
_____ Learn LACCD regulations pertaining to ASO and shared governance process.
_____ Provide supervised counseling to ASO on academic, transfer, career, and financial aid issues.

II. PROGRAM ADMINISTRATION

_____ Learn the structure and administration of Student Services Division and ASO.
_____ Work with one group of students throughout the academic year (supervised)
_____ Develop and present a minimum of one academic or skill development workshop per semester.
_____ Attend Student Services and ASO meetings.
_____ Work with ASO students to plan campus events and activities that increase student engagement

III. COLLEGE AND DISTRICT STRUCTURE

_____ Observe and learn about the Los Angeles Southwest College General Counseling Office.
_____ Observe and learn about the Los Angeles Southwest College Transfer Center.
_____ Observe and learn about the Los Angeles Southwest College Career Center.
_____ Observe and learn about the Los Angeles Southwest College EOP&S Program.
_____ Observe and learn about the Los Angeles Southwest College Financial Aid Office.
_____ Observe and learn about the Los Angeles Southwest College Admissions Office.
_____ Observe and learn about the Los Angeles Southwest College Disabled Student Programs and
Services Office.
_____ Observe and learn about the Los Angeles Southwest College TRIO Programs.
_____ Learn the organizational structure and hiring procedures of Los Angeles Southwest College.
_____ Learn the regulations and shared governance process related to the Los Angeles Southwest
College Associated Student Organization
