Section 2. Select two satirical literary works (a longer poem and a prose piece) you
have studied. Then identify and explain 3 of their most specific characteristics.

-“Gulliver travels” (prose) is Swift’s most enduring satire, altought it is full of
allusions to recent and contemporary historical events. Almost unique in world
literature, it is simple enough for children and complex enough to take adults
beyond their depth.The travel like a fairy story transport us to an imaginary world
that is different from our own.

-“Mac Flecknoe” John Dryden (poem) The victim of thos superb satire is Thomas
Shadwell. Each character in this poem is presented under the domination of a
single psychological of his humor. Flacknoe is a triple rule of king and
