Unplanned Pregnancy Rates in the

United States, 1981-2002

Among all women (age 15-44 years), the rate of unplanned pregnancy has remained
relatively the same since 1981. However, there are differences over time when exploring the rate
of unplanned pregnancy by age. Specifically, there has been a dramatic decline in the rate of
unplanned pregnancy among teenagers (aged 15-19), and a slight increase among women in their
twenties.
