Instructional Sequence
1. Diego will draw a clothespin from a bag and then we’ll match
the name of the fruit with the picture and clip it to the wheel.
We’ll go through all the fruit on the wheel first, and practice
saying them.
2. Then we’ll do the same with the colors.
3. After that we’ll remove the clothespins from the board and
Diego will write the words as best he can by sounding out the
word.
4. If he struggles, he can go back to the clothespins, find the
right one, and copy it to the paper.
5. Throughout the process we’ll focus a lot on sounding out the
words, letter sounds, and repetition.

Background knowledge I’ll build on:

I know that Diego is already aware of high frequency words, the
alphabet, the sounds letters make and how to sound out words. I’ll
review this throughout the activity.

**SIOP CH 2, Feature 4: By using visuals (the wheel with pictures), I’ll

help Diego figure out which clothespins go where and he’ll learn to
associate the word with the picture.
**SIOP CH 2, Feature 5: I’ve chosen to have Diego read words that he
is already familiar with to help him build his reading skills. He is
already familiar and comfortable with how the words sound so reading
them is his next step.
**For making the lesson more comprehensible, I’ll speak slowly and
repeat and rephrase.
