Congressman Peter King

Washington Office
339 Cannon House Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20515

Dear Congressman King,

As a Jew and a Muslim, we are contacting you because we believe that yesterday’s House
Homeland Security Committee hearing targeting Muslim-Americans was not only
inconsistent with America's core values – but inconsistent with the democratic wave we
see rolling across the Middle East right now.

The targeting of Muslims at a House hearing that you called for, dredges up some of the
worst moments in American society when it comes to not respecting the principles
embodied in the Constitution and symbolized by the Statue of Liberty - the Know
Nothings; targeting of Italians for terrorism in post-WWI era; the Arizona Minutemen.

On March 14, a movie that portrays the life of Muslim women growing up in Israel will
be premiered at the United Nations. The movie, MIRAL, is based on real events and real
stories that have been fictionalized.

At its core, MIRAL makes clear that human values like love, children and family are
common to all people, as difficult as that must be for you to believe. And the movie
makes clear the transcendent role of education in creating a peaceful solution to conflict.

We challenge you to attend the U.S. premier of the film next week in New York - and
participate in a little bit of education.

Given your desire to learn more about the Muslim American community, we’ve saved
you a ticket for the premiere and welcome your participation in a Q&A session with us
and the audience following the screening. We’d welcome your comments and questions
about the issues raised in MIRAL and are sure that those in attendance would like to hear
your reaction to the film given your strong desire to investigate the Muslim community.

Please contact Lisa Cohen at XXXXXXXXXXX or XXX-XXX-XXXX and we’ll be

sure to send along further details about the premiere.

Sincerely,

Rula Jebreal and Julian Schnabel
