The Delaware aqueduct, construct-
ed between 1939 and 1945, carries
approximately half of the New York
City water supply. Being the lon-
gest continuos underground
tunnel, the water transitions from
the Rondout Reservoir through the
Chelsea Pump Station, the West
Branch Reservoir, the Kensico
Reservoir and ends in the Hillview
reservoir in Yonkers, New York.
Providing approximately half of the
New York City Water supply of 1.3
billion gallons per day, 36 million of
those gallons are daily being waist-
