INTRODUCTION
T’n’Q publications pvt.ltd is a Chennai based
publishing company.
T ‘n’Q stands for Travancore and Quilon.
Started in 1998 under the ownership of
Mr.M.N.Joseph.
By 2005, started 3 different branches in different parts
of Chennai.
Nearly 1ooo employees currently working there..
Reputed publisher of many Indian and foreign
journals.
This include mainly biotechnology and
nanotechnology journals.
HR department
Activities include:
Recruitment
Training.
Wages and salaries.
Performance appraisal . etc.
Apart from the administrative and management side,
they appoint people for the post of editors, and also for
the press works.
The employees in the management trainee and editor
post selected are B.Tech holders in Printing
technology, biotechnology and nanotechnology, based
on their knowledge in their respective areas and also
fluency in English.
Problem identified
High employee turn over faced by the company over
the past 6 months.
Employees reluctant to continue at the firm.
Cause of the problem
Employees at the ‘editor ’ and ‘management trainee’
post – reluctant to continue.
After the selection, a training of 6 months is given.
Training period- really tough- work through out the
week without any holidays.
High work load.
Remuneration much low when compared with the
work load.
Soon after training, many of them resigned.
Much money and time spend on recruitment and
training.
Faced shortage of people and the productivity of the
firm decreased.
Solution.
Mr. Swaminathan, the Hr manager was able to tackle
the problem.
Changes in the HR policy.
New package introduced, where in ,the salary and the
work time dealt carefully.
Facilities for leisure time activities.
Boosted the motivation level of employees.
Employees were satisfied.
