BLACK HISTORY MONTH CELEBRATION AT BROKEN BOW LIBRARY


"THE MAN WHO KILLED JIM CROW"
(a one-man, one-act play)

Former McCurtain NAACP 2nd V.P., Lucious Conway performs as Charles Hamilton Houston,
Dean of Howard University Law School and first special counsel to the NAACP

(Broken Bow, OK) - The Broken Bow Public Library will host the debut performance of "The Man
Who Killed Jim Crow" in celebration of Black History Month. This one-man, one-act play chronicles
highlights from the life of Charles Hamilton Houston and portrays Houston speaking as an Oklahoma
State NAACP Annual Convention Legal Redress Committee Guest Lecturer noting the need for legal
aid among blacks throughout the state and how local NAACP Legal Redress Committees must fill this
gap.

Lucious Conway, writer, producer, and director, said, "So many do not know that Charles Hamilton
Houston was the architect behind the landmark Brown v. Board of Education case that ended legal
segregation in America. And, it is time that changed. I believe if Houston knew the impediments to
justice facing the black communities in Oklahoma he would have something to say and so in his name
and in this play, I take the liberty to say it."
