Heat transfer of non-Newtonian
fluids in circular Microchannels

To Model Non-Newtonian fluids:

Power Law Model is used
where the shear stress, τ, is given by

K is the flow consistency index

∂u/∂y is the shear rate
n is the flow behaviour
index (dimensionless). n Type of fluid
<1 Pseudoplastic
1 Newtonian fluid
>1 Dilatant
Non - Dimensionalization for Non-Newtonian
fluids
The dimensionless governing equations in cylindrical
coordinate
Equations cont.

T0 is some reference Temperature

U is axial Velocity
V is radial Velocity
R is along radial Direction
X along axial Direction
n is flow behaviour index
Boundary Conditions

And they have also used Symmetric Condition - The velocity and temperature
gradient across the symmetry axis is zero.
Numerical Results
Slip coefficient - ratio of the velocity of the
fluid at the wall to the mean velocity.

When slip flow occurs, axial

velocity of fluid near
wall increases and requirement
of mass conservation forces
the fluids to correspondingly
slow down in the center
Friction Factor

the friction factor decreases with increasing of axial distance which relates
to the high pressure drop in the developing section of the channel.
Nusselt Number

-When slip flow occurs, axial velocity of fluid near wall increases which
promotes the role of convection heat transfer and results in higher Nusselt
number.
- For H boundary condition, the wall temperature gradient is more than
that of T boundary conditions
