The Gestalt effect is the form-generating capability of our senses, particularly with respect to the visual recognition of figures and whole forms instead of just a collection of simple lines and curves. GESTALT LAWS of ORGANIZATION Law of Closure The mind may experience elements it does not perceive through sensation, in order to complete a regular figure Law of Similarity The mind groups similar elements into collective entities or totalities. This similarity might depend on relationships of form, color, size, or brightness Law of Proximity Spatial or temporal proximity of elements may induce the mind to perceive a collective or totality. LAW OF SIMPLICITY We perceive the pattern in the most basic, straightforward manner that we can FEATURE ANALYSIS An approach to perception suggesting that we perceive a shape, pattern, object, or scene through the reaction of the specific neurons to the individual elements that make up the stimulus. This tiny bit of graffiti may be overlooked by the casual passerby because of it’s size, but it is also humorous and makes it seem like there is a hole in the wall.
