When two straight lines meet at a point, they form an angle. The point is called the
vertex of the angle, and the lines are called the sides of the angle.
The angle to the right can be identified in three ways:
1.
2.
3. or
When two straight lines meet at a point, they form four angles. The angles opposite
each other are called vertical angles, and they are congruent (equal). In the figure ,
a = b, and c = d.
Angles are measured in degrees . By definition, a circle has . So an angle can be
measured by its fractional part of a circle.
An angle that is of the arc of a circle is 1û. And an angle that is of the arc of a circle
is
• An acute angle has measure less than
• The shortest distance from a point to a line is along a new line that passed
through the point and is perpendicular to the original line.
Example 1:
Write complement of 42o, 87o, 20o.
Angles 48o, 3o, 70o are the complements of the angles 42o, 87o, 20o respectively.
Example 2:
Write the supplement of 108o, 93o, 170o.
Angles 72o, 87o, 10o are the supplements of the angles 108o, 93o, 170o respectively.
