WRITTEN IN PORTUGUESE
This list contains the titles of 75 books written in Portuguese about

Hydrology, Water Resources, Hydraulics, Fluid Mechanics and other related
subjects. It’s evident that there are many other titles, but due to
personal constraints, I decided to catalog only these seventy-five books.
I’d just like to add the following four warnings.
1. They are all books written in Portuguese.
2. They are in alphabetic order.
3. The sites in which they can be bought are written only in
Portuguese.

A comprehensive book about Water Resources Management Models. It’s divided
into five parts: (1) the institutional and legal fundaments of Water
Resources Management, (2) an overview on the Hydrologic Information and
some Hydrology concepts, (3) deterministic models, (4) stochastic models,
and (5) optimization and simulation techniques applied to Water Resources
Systems. It’s a good book that could be used by any Portuguese speaker
hydrologist, in spite of the fact that a great deal of its first part is
specifically devoted to the Brazilian legislation.

Although I’ve never read this book, it is, as far as I was told by an

Two efficient tools are presented in this book: the SIC (Simulation de
Canaux d’Irrigation) Model for simulating flow through Irrigation Canals,
developed by the Cemagref, the French Institute of Sciences and Technology
Research for the Development, and the MGB-IPH Model, for simulating the
flow in big basins, developed by the Hydraulics Research Institute (IPH)
from Brazil.

Up to the time being, this is the last book of the series named Numerical
Methods in Water Resources, published by the Brazilian Association of Water
Resources (ABRH). The first part of the book deals with the computational
models of sewer submarine pipelines, taking water quality aspects into
account. The second part give us a general and critical view of numerical
and analytical transient problems models in Water Resources.

Hidráulica. DAEE, São Paulo, 1989.
A very good little book about the principles of the main numerical methods
used to solve steady state and transient hydraulic problems for both free
surface flow and flow under pressure. Each different problem is presented
step by step: the mathematical derivation, the numerical approach, the
block diagram and finally the algorithm written in FORTRAN. A highly
skilled work, in my point-of-view.

chapters, they can be studied separately, turning this book into an

A classic and very well written Brazilian book of Basic Hydraulics. The
first part that deals with Hydrostatics is very, say, proper. In my
opinion, the style of the Portuguese language used is almost literary. An
excelent book, at the very least.

The most updated book on Basic Hydraulics in Brazil. In my opinion, it’s
the best book on the subject ever written in Portuguese. Besides his deep

interesting aesthetic approach.

An essential book on Basic Hydrology for undergraduates. It contains the
very essential core of the hydrological concepts and doesn't go too deep
into the subject. On the other hand, despite its tiny and modest size, it
remains the best textbook written in Portuguese for very beginners in
Hydrology, in my personal point-of-view.
