Senior at Colorado School of Mines That’s me!

Major: Mechanical Engineering

Minor: Humanitarian Engineering
Former intern for ArcelorMittal
PROJECT BACKGROUND
- Steel is the world’s most recycled material
- “Scale Pits” are a source of iron units, however
they’re also oily
- Oils cause unwanted hydrocarbon emissions during
sintering (melting down)
- AM wanted to know more about kinematic particle
behavior (mechanical and chemical) with hopes of
being able to reclaim units lost to landfilling

RESULTS
- Detailed equation development and documentation
- A functional Excel model (able to develop correlations
between 17 independent variables)
- Served as the basis for further research and model
development
- Expanded personal knowledge of chemical and
mechanical concepts
