and it͛s made up entirely of islands. It occupies most of an archipelago in the Pacific Ocean.
Hawaii͛s natural beauty, warm tropical climate, inviting waters and waves, and active
volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists, and volcanologists. Its
capital is Honolulu, the biggest city of Hawaii, located on Oahu Island.

There are many islands in Hawaii, where all of them were formed from volcanic
activity. But there are six bigger and main islands: Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui and
Hawaii͛s Big Island. Due to shifting volcano activity, caused by the movement of tectonic plate,
the oldest island is Kauai while the youngest is Hawaii͛s Big Island. Since the action of erosion,
you can see difference among the topography of these islands.

Hawaii͛s climate is typical for the tropics, although snow falls at high places as Mauna
Kea (4,205 meters) on Big Island. Most of Hawaii has only two seasons: the dry season from
May to October, and the wet season from October to April.

The economy is based mainly on tourism, but agriculture also contributes with
products like pineapple, sugarcane and coffee.

One of the reasons to Hawaii be a place worth visiting is its beautiful beaches with
green-blue water. The islands have every type of beaches with white, black, green and red
sand, and romantic bays and beach parks for the family.

Hawaii is popularly known as a good place to practice surfing. It was the birthplace of
big waves surfing. Some of the best competitions in the world are held on Oahu͛s North Shore
in November and December. But even if you aren͛t a surfer you can enjoy it taking surfing
lessons available on almost every island.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park is one of the few places in the world where visitors can
come face to face with an active volcano. The possibility to explore the Kilauea, one of the
world's most active volcanoes, makes Hawaii a destination unlike any other.

Another attraction is Hula, a typical dance that became a symbol of Hawaiian culture.
It was developed in the Hawaiian Islands by the Polynesians who originally lived there a long
time ago. This dance can be seen throughout the islands at seasonal festivals and competitions
as well as live performances at hotels and resorts.
