As we read our novels, we will be doing a number of activities and writing assignments. Below are
the criteria for grading during this unit:
“A” Level: --You will read BOTH novels and complete in-class work on them.
--Your primary focus, however, will be on The Catcher in the Rye
What this means is that you will read both novels, but your major assignments (the Dialogue
Journal and the Expository Essay) will focus on The Catcher in the Rye
Your Expository Essay will also meet the “A” level standard (outlined when that assignment is
handed out.)
“B” Level: --You will read Part Time Indian and complete in-class and out-of-class work
on it.
--Your primary focus will be on Part Time Indian
--You will complete the Dialogue Journal and Expository Essay, focusing on
Part Time Indian.
Your Expository Essay will also meet the “B” level standard (outlined when that assignment is
handed out.)
“C” Level: --You will read Part Time Indian and complete in-class and out-of-class work
on it.
--Your primary focus will be on Part Time Indian.
--You will complete the Dialogue Journal and Expository Essay, focusing on
Part Time Indian.
--At least 8 passages and responses
--Responses are at least 100 words in length
--Word Count is included
--Neatly written or TYPED
--Your journals are handed in ON TIME
--Page numbers are provided for all passages quoted
Your Expository Essay will also meet the “C” level standard (outlined when that
assignment is handed out.)
