Grading Scale

Students pursuing an A in English will:

• Complete all notebook assignments thoughtfully, completely,

and on time
• Write all essays (including drafts and reflections) thoughtfully,
completely, and on time; exceed writing benchmark expectations
• Complete all reading assignments (including supplementary A-
level texts); demonstrate excellent mastery of that material in
evaluations that may include essays, exams, quizzes, or text-
related projects
• Participate actively in class activities and discussions in ways
that demonstrate exemplary engagement with course materials

Students pursuing a B in English will:

• Complete most notebook assignments thoughtfully and on time

• Write most essays (including drafts and reflections) thoughtfully,
and on time; meet writing benchmark expectations
• Complete all reading assignments; demonstrate mastery of that
material in evaluations that may include essays, exams, quizzes,
or text-related projects
• Participate actively in class activities and discussions in ways
that demonstrate engagement with course materials

Students pursuing a C in English will:

• Complete most notebook assignments on time

• Write most essays (including drafts and reflections); meet writing
benchmark expectations
• Complete all reading assignments; demonstrate understanding
of that material in evaluations that may include essays, exams,
quizzes, or text-related projects
• Participate in class activities and discussions in ways that
demonstrate an effort to build skills
