What is the Bhagavadgita?
The Bhagavadgita is one section of the Mahabharata, an epic poem created by the ancient
Aryans. The Aryans were herdsmen-warriors who conquered the Indus river valley and settled
throughout the Ganges plain. They developed the beliefs and traditions that became the
foundation of India's Hindu religion. The Bhagavadgita ranks as one of the three principal texts
of Hinduism. It tells the story of the ethical dilemmas of a family divided by a power struggle.


Who is Arjuna?
Arjuna is the hero of the Bhagavadgita. When the two sides of the family stand ready to battle
each other in a war, Arjuna despairs at the thought of having to kill his relatives. He is torn
because he is a Kshatriyas, a member of the warrior caste, and it is his duty to fight.


Who is Krishna?
Lord Krishna is a popular incarnation (or form) of the Hindu god, Vishnu. In the Bhagavadgita,
Krishna is Arjuna's charioteer and adviser. He argues against Arunja's reluctance to do his duty as
a warrior.
